Due to a 9am start here not even I am game to start on the bourbons yet so heres my takes on the days action. Awesome action so far, Rolando Reyes exploded out of nowhere to KO Julio Diaz in round 5 in the opening bout. Rd.4 now of Carlos Hernandez and Vincente Escobedo, Hernandez down in the opening two rounds before rattling Escobedo in the third with Escobedo answering back at the end of the third.
Rd.5 Hernandez marching forward and landing, Escobedo countering and landing, good action fight, hard to split that round. Looking like $30 well invested so far.
Rd.6 Hernandez continues to stalk, landing the better shots and with a minute to go Escobedo goes down, some question as to whether Hernandez stood on his foot but the ref calls it, 10-8 Hernandez, replays confirm Escobedos foot was stood on before the kd.
Rd.7 Escobedo catching Hernandez on the way in with combos but H rattles E with some big shots 1 min in. Back and forth for the rest of the round, I'll shade it to E for landing the cleaner shots but H doing some serious damage and body work. Kats-Chavez next.
Rd.8 Es rd, landing some big shots which forces H to start boxing a little more and cease marching forward. Swelling starting to appear around Hs right eye, Escobedo looking the better but won't rule H out just yet.
R.10 H wont die wondering, lands some big shots, briefly rattles E, and the fight finishes with both of them swinging, H will win the round but probably come up short on the cards. Great fight.
Kats-Chavez next, pre fight blah blah on now, as a sacrifice to this forum will now attempt to drink a bourbon (for the sake of the thread).
Katsidis to enter first, bourbons away! Not getting too much grief from the home town crowd, a few scattered boos but an ok reception. Chavez now entering, hmm, is it me or does he look slightly pudgy? Loses points already from me cos hes entering to Eminem.
Really surprised by the crowd, thought they'd give Kats more grief but apart from a few scattered boos pretty respectful. Of course they **** their pants for Chavez but thats to be expected. Final instructions about to happen and then we're away.
Rd.1 Close rd, Chavez busier but Kats defense is good, landed a nice uppercut and a right, hard to give it to one but if pressed I'll guess they'd shade it to the hometown boy Chavez.
Rd.2 Another tight round, I can't split 'em, Kats looking a little more controlled than previous efforts. 19-18 Chavez, 10-10 that rd. Anyone out there?
Rd.3 Commentary team are calling it a Chavez clinic, bit harsh imo, landing uppercuts on Kats but Kats is answering and lands a nice left near the end, Chavezs round though, 10-9, 30-28 Chavez.
Rd.4 Chavez cut, ref calls it a headbutt, high on Chavezs forehead. Kats landing better, will give it to him, 10-9 Kats, 39-38 Chavez.
