Canelo was new to the weight and still improving as a boxer, I think the OP is hyperbole but there is a hint of truth as Canelo certainly improved in the rematch

Without a doubt he improved in the rematch, as did Golovkin too.

What some true fight fans conveniently ignore is that moving up in weight comes with new uncertainties. Can you take the bigger opponents punches (especially when they are heralded to be one of the best P4P punchers), will you have enough power to hurt your opponent, will you have the stamina to carry the new weight and deal with the bigger fighter. Its obvious why some fighters, especially multi dimensional fighters fight a bit more cautiously when moving up in weight, especially on their first fight.

GGG is 8 years older than Clenelo, took up boxing at a younger age, had way way more amateur fights (350) fighting with a very aggressive style, fighting at the elite level for a very long time, and he fought tons of great/elite amateurs and future pro world champs and top contenders in the amateurs.

And he's always done a lot of sparring, hard sparring with bigger or much bigger guys and big punchers, most of them either world champions, top contenders or quality or decent pros

He'd been boxing like 25 years when he fought Clenelo the first time for goodness sake with a ton of wear and tear his on his body from his extremely extensive amateur career and he's always been a notoriously hard trainer who was rarely out of shape

Clenelo wasn't waiting for GGG to get younger when he was ageing him out and ducking him

He fought a 35, 36 and 40 y/o GGG when he (Clenelo) was smack back in the midst of his prime.

People are saying Clenelo has been on the slide since he was 32, some even since he was 30, but GGG was prime at 35, 36, and 40 and Clenelo has a better defence and gets hit less than him too, right?

Not to mention one of them is a PED cheat who popped dirty before the rematch which just so happened to coincide with his physique transforming into Hulknelo

The two GGG fights Is where Canelo really grew, they took him to another level. That being said, I still think he lost both.

Didn't Canelo hand his belt back when the Fight with a Prime Golovkin was trying to be made......
Alvarez raised questions of whether he is ducking Golovkin, who is 35-0 with 32 knockouts, when he voluntarily gave up his WBC middleweight title Wednesday. That allowed the Mexican star to avoid a deadline to set a date for a fight against Golovkin, who was the WBC’s mandatory challenger. As a result, the Kazakh fighter now has the WBC belt, along with the WBO and IBF titles, and Alvarez has plenty of questions about whether he intends to back up his talk.

You know, one could be pro Canelo and truthful at the same time. If he lost, he lost vs GGG.
