Even years ago prior to the Lopez fight, even his best highlight reels; aka the one thing that should be a compilation of his best work, I never really saw anything special.

Honestly, if you are a seasoned fan of whatever; Whether its combat sports or a ball sport, eye test holds a lot of weight. He never once passed the eye test for me (ofc he does, but not to the extent the internet was hyping him up to be. The next great thing, best since post Pacquiao etc)

One of, if not the best footwork in the game during his prime years (i understand he became pro at the latter half of his prime)

    Great angles on his punches

However, lowkey has a low boxing iq. Absolutely disgusted at his Lopez fight. Lol dude probably threw 50 punches in the first 7 rounds.

Weak to the body, doesn't know what to do when he gets nailed downstairs

Doesn't sit on punches until late in the fight. His highlight reels tells all, dude is teleporting ariund the ring like Goku but throwing some bulma esque arm punches, so it looks flashy but to me, I am questioning how he is letting all these great angles and openings go to waste

His career is turning/turned out exactly how I thought it would. Nothing great really, just a few good cases of argument over certain fighters.

Usyk has absolutely blown past him in this regard. Meanwhile, people have Ward Derangement Syndrome, for past 20 years boxers.

He was supposed to do what Usyk did to live up to the hype. But he didn't. So in a way I do think there's a case for it.

But in another his losses to Salido and Haney weren't really losses.

And his work at SFW was enough to see he's a really special fighter. But ultimately he'll be remembered as someone who under achieved in the pro ranks.

Loma is an artist of boxing. Sadly not many will see it, because of the robberies.

Unpopular opinion: if Lomachenko stayed at his natural weight he'd have owned your soul by now.

Unpopular opinion by far. Lomachenko is the goat amateur and unlike most of the amateur guys who were in that argument of being the goat weren’t anywhere NEAR what they were in the ams. Loma came pretty close at least and his 2nd career pro fight was a cluster **** and a robbery do to a paid off horrible ref, shady judges and a organization that allowed Orlando Saleazo to come into that fight wayyy past the weight limit. That stalled his ascension into stardom.

But he rebounded nicely by schooling a hyped up russel jr and putting on otherworldly performances against walters and the guy who WAS hyped up to be the actual goat amateur rigo. Loma embarrassed them both. Made two world class hyped up champions QUIT do to bring brain ****ed in the ring.

I do think Lomachenko’s whole boxing run will be more appreciated down the line after he’s gone. By most boxing fans anyway. The usual suspects won’t even want his name mentioned. Lol But it will be ;) And most actual fans of the sport will remember how insanely talented he was.

Also… as mentioned above… had Loma stayed at 130 he would’ve only had that Saleazo ‘blemish’ on his record and might have broken the 130lb record for consecutive title defenses. Ugh! Oh well… woulda been nice but not to be.

2 of his losses have been very controversial and he's took risks I don't know why people are so quick to call fighters overrated for taking risks and taking a loss or two. Then in another sentence they call fighters who pad their records and don't take losses "cherry pickers" fans are so fickle you can't win.

He is majorly overrated by many and to be fair he is also underrated by many

Some make him out like he is some Goat, because he was the most accomplished amateur in history. Duran and Pacquiao are much greater and don't have the amateur accolades. They are 2 different games entirely

Others make him like he is very ordinary which is also untrue. He has some amazing skills and his footwork is extraordinary.

He's a great talent, but I don't know if he has done enough to be mentioned with the very best all time. Usyk has done it, but not lomachenko imo

I mean he barely lost to an elite 140 guy and then had a debatable with another when he really is a natural FW/SFW. Yeah he came to the pros late and couldn't manage to iron out some kinks in his game from the amateurs but I've been impressed with everything he's done so far EVEN in his L's, people's expectations were too high.

When you say past decade do you mean 2020-present? Because if so I dispute that. All of his "luster" came off after the Teo fight and that was this decade. Even the previous decade he wasn't. That was Joshua. I do recall people saying he was in the running to be the GOAT and that was always ridiculous. HOF'er yeah, ATG no. Concerning historically where he ends up yeah I'd say his fanatics do overrate him............................the most overrated nah. I vividly recall people saying Anthony Joshua was the greatest HW of all time. And that trumps everything said about Loma.

He could’ve lived up to the hype but went MIA for the Tank fight in 2024.

I'd regard Lomachenko as an underachiever rather than one that is overrated in the pro ranks. Don't forget that he is one of the best ever amateurs to do it.

In hindsight, given the recent crop of 130 beltholders he most definitely would've gone undisputed (boxing political BS aside) and reigned as the absolute king of the division for years.

Then again in that case a lot of people would've yapped at him to move up to 135 anyway.

    Mostly disagree.

He [Loma] had insufficient time to become the GOAT. When he fought opponents his size he was well and truly levels above. When he fought opponents 1,2,3 (5 in case of Haney) weight classes above, he still hung with them, and more often than not, won. This is a guy that's come up from FW, fighting giants at "135 lbs".

The same dirty, albeit "legal", modern tactics of weight cutting and super rehydrating by his opponents (e.g., Haney, Lopez) doesn't exactly help. Loma couldn't find anyone at his weight that could create a cagey, boxing affair. It was always weight that had to even the odds.

Also, Loma's style is to create angles, feint, create transient positions with no fixture, to bamboozle with volume, control space & distance and to mix up power shots with arm punches (if you've boxed this is a strategy they straight teach you - it keeps the opp guessing and unprepared or tense!). It might be a bit flashy, but it's flashy with class, not some prat doing a shuffle or holding his hands behind his back or some shizz.

The only thing I would agree with is that there is a bit of disappointment that he didn't become undisputed and have no blemishes on his record.

The one thing about boxing is it's entertainment - in a blood sport. People either wanna see artistry or savagery. Loma was the former. But my God did/does he entertain!
