In regards to Mayweather it's because he's disliked alot for his personality and i have to say i do find him intolerable in regards to his personality aswell. But his skills and even his resume which people like to discredit is great and there's no denying that.

But in regards to Loma i hate the word overrated because as i said previously if Loma had padded his record some more against no hopers and didn't lose fights people would still be calling him overrated for not taking risks you can't win with fans they're so fickle.

The fact is he's had 18 world title fights and won 15 of them over 3 different weightclasses that's a very good record i don't care what anyone says. Yes he's had losses which has been pointed out but context is needed for the losses it's no secret a majority had him beating Haney and the Salido fight was a farce.

In my mind the only legit loss he's had is vs Lopez and that loss hasn't exactly aged that badly considering Lopez has been a lineal champion in two different weightclasses how many people can say they've done that ?

Overall maybe Loma didn't fulfil his full potential but neither did say Tyson for example but does anyone deny he wasn't a great talent in his peak ? I just think Loma hasn't had the luck like some other fighters for example if Loma had Canelo's favouritism with the judges how much different would his record look ?

I have to completely disagree with OP here. My number one pet peeve about modern boxing is the way fans overvalue having that 0 in the loss column on your record. A guy loses a fight or two and it’s like his career is considered over. Fighters know this obviously, so many of them will go out of their way to protect that 0 at all costs, for as long as possible. Then oftentimes they will only take on a real challenge at the tail end of their prime (or after their prime) when they know that even if they lose, they still have cashed out so to speak. I really don’t understand why boxing has become like this. In UFC, and just MMA in general, it’s not nearly as big of a deal (or a potential career ender) to lose a fight. I feel like fighters like Lomachenko should be commended for taking on very difficult challenges, win or lose. But then he loses some fights, and you see what happens…people go online to say he’s the most overrated fighter of the past decade. Plus, look at his losses. His first loss to Salido was I believe his second ever pro fight, and he was already fighting for a belt. Salido basically ignored the weight limit and came in way too heavy (Lomachenko agreed to let the fight go on despite the disadvantage this put him at). Salido then fouled constantly and landed about 50 low blows, and he goes on to win a split decision over Loma. Even ignoring the weight advantage and constant fouls, you could definitely make an argument that Loma should have won this fight on the cards. Then you have his second loss to Lopez… this is the only loss that I actually view as legit. Everyone knows about this fight…Loma started very slow with low volume the first half of the fight, then came on in the back half of the fight and won most of the later rounds. However, Lopez deservedly won on the cards. Loma had a shoulder injury going into this fight and had surgery on that shoulder a few days later. I’m not trying to make excuses for him, as Lopez deservedly won, but Loma probably should have tried to push the date of the fight back after the shoulder injury (obviously that’s easy to say now with hindsight being 20/20). And then as far as the Haney fight, I had Loma winning by a couple rounds…I think I had it 7-5 Loma but can’t remember for sure. I wouldn’t call it a robbery as it was a legitimately close fight imo. However, the general consensus from most observers seems to be that Loma edged it out. Anyway, I just think it’s a little crazy to call Loma the most overrated fighter of the past decade based on these losses…you’d think he was constantly getting knocked out or dominated on the cards with the way some people talk about him. Yeah, I agree that he was probably a little overrated at one point, but I admire his willingness to take on tough opponents who are often quite bigger than him. He also started his pro career rather late too. I always find his fights fun to watch as well. Anyway, that’s my rant on this whole Loma being massively overrated theory.

Nobody is saying Loma is not a great fighter or has an excellent record. The issue is those making him out to be something he is not that being the greatest fighter of all time which he clearly is not. Whether you had him winning the Haney fight which everybody agrees was close and the Salido fight the facts remain is that he lost both fights and in 1,000 years the record will still record them as losses. I felt Haney won and the judges agree with me. That’s boxing.

In fact despite the fact Teo beat him clearly a fight I correctly predicted by the way many here could not accept it crying that it was a robbery.

No he's clearly not close to being the greatest fighter of all time but i would say his skill set is some of the best i've seen in the modern era. I think modern fans are too fixated on undefeated records and when a fighter loses they're quick to jump on the bandwagon and say "oh yeah he's overrated always has been" as i said fans are fickle and are never satisfied.

Loma despite maybe not fulfilling his full potential due to not getting the luck in some of his fights has still had a very good career that 90 percent of fighters would be happy with having.

No he's not an ATG but he's a low tier great and should be appreciated not discredited he was a very entertaining fighter with alot of skills who took risks.

personally, i put all of it into context. yes it was his second fight, but he didn't stop learning, training and competing after his 1st medal. There are no secrets about boxing that can only be revealed once you turn pro. he had ample time, opportunity and access to training for any style or fighter he wanted to. he wasn't a 17 yo kid in school sparring other kids. his team knew how far along he was in his craft. they matched him correctly, and he performed like he should have. he was at, or a level above salido. there are levels above those 2. and its not like loma learned a bunch of new tricks between salido and lopez.

To be honest I just disagree with that, experience is important and there's not many guys like Salido in the amateurs. There's a reason why guys who are very talented spend early parts of their career fighting tomato cans just to get used to different styles.

do you believe he would have been as competitive against salido if he had fought him 6 months after his first medal in 08 because hes naturally that talented. or was there improvement between 08 and his first pro fight in 13?

Lomachenko is one of a few boxers of the past decade that acctually got anything noteworthy done.

The countdown starts at January 2015 I guess, name me 10 boxers who got more done than him?

There was the overhyped phase where he got himself into a fight against the weightcheating lowblowing mexican guy and then he beat a bunch of nobodies because there wasn't anyone else around to fight and then it was time to beat up on much smaller but fabulous Rigondox and some pretty decent guys around the same weightclasses. Then he made the fight vs Teofimo, it wasn't Teo that made that fight it was Loma who wanted it and made it happen. Afterwards he had some close fights with champion Devin Haney and then he retook his belt vs the greek australian guy.

What did GGG do? Fight a bunch of nobodies at MW, await Canelos arrival and departure and then follow him up for a third payday?
What on earth did Tyson Fury accomplish?
Canelo, did he do that much better than Loma?
AJ did not do as good as Loma these last 10 years, no way.
Who else do we have? Who is this bit star from 2014 till today?
Usyk did all that he could but in all honesty Lomas efforts were more honorable.
The Japanese guy has suffered from a lack of competition.
Teofimo seems to be going the Loma route but he is lagging behind Loma.
Jesus, has Loma had the best career of any boxer during the last decade?
It certainly looks that way to me. If he has had the best career then he can't be the most overrated fighter of that time period.

Or wait... I know, Spence is the #1 fighter of the last decade cause he beat the awful guy who beat a broken Manny Pacquiao.

If he fought Salido with say 10-15 pro fights he blasts him out easily, assuming fair reffing.

i can see that. but i cant see the domination that mikey put on him. and thats my main point. loma is very good, better than most. and he has added dimensions to the game. his footwork is a thing to be studied. but there are still fighters who have fought and are fighting at a higher level.

I'm actually a huge Mikey fan so no arguments from me, I think Mikey is up there with Loma, Crawford, Usyk, Canelo as this generation's elite fighters that couldn't really get his due.

But stylistically, Mikey is a bigger guy who punches hard, so it's no surprise that he'd be able to keep a swarmer off him better.
