Gatti committed suicide and his family is classless for slandering his widow. Their opinions were swayed by money.

Late 70s Ali wasn't particularly better than John Ruiz.

You can't convince me that Jesse James Hughes wouldn't have eventually walked down and worn down Felix Trinidad and knocked him out for the title had they fought as scheduled.

Boxing fans readily accept the principle that the business is and was crooked but they defend every single fight result as though their mother's honor is at stake whenever someone points a suspicious finger at one.

Had ****ey gone all out after Holmes and tried to kill him instead of throwing the fight with all this "going the distance" nonsense, I believe he'd have bludgeoned him into unconsciousness 7 or 8 times out of 10.

I've heard similar ana logies before, and they are powerful but nevertheless misleading and ultimately inaccurate. No one is disputing Jim Jeffries dominance in his own era, and that his achievements are much better than, say, Kubrat Pulev. What they are saying is that Jim Jeffries came out of a much smaller talent pool, and that it is very unlikely that Jeffries, at least as he was back in the 1900's, could have beaten Pulev, with 3 inches and 30 pounds on him. Similarly, Galileo's intellectual accomplishments are nearly unrivalled, but there are probably many people with similar brain power nowadays, because the "talent pool" is many times that of the 1500's with world population being so much larger. You do know they organize school sports according to class size right? Otherwise, the schools with more students would generally dominate the smaller schools because they have more talent to draw on.

It's a pretty solid possibility IMO that he killed himself. The 48 Hours special on him and some of the other things I've read made me think that he killed himself. I mean Gatti's own brother thinks Arturo killed himself. All the "independent" investigation, paid for by Gatti's family (I think Pat Lynch may have helped pay for it too), said was that Gatti may have not killed himself. Far from conclusive.

I do have some doubts about suicide as well...the thing that annoys me is when people say "no way Gatti killed himself, he had so much heart in the ring, he would never quit in life!!"

That is just so freaking stupid and illogical. People actually think there's a lot of "logic" in that horrendous argument.

The point is no matter what anyone else does, a great athlete could be competitive in any era, obviously they would not experience the same level of success. Hence the example of Galileo. Obviously he would not stand out as much and would not have made the same discoveries in 2015 as he did in 1580, but he would still be a brilliant scientist

Super Heavies aren't super human and would not beat all the past heavyweight champs in 1-3 rounds.

Everyone past 1970 is extremely overrated.

Galileo was a bum. He'd be lucky to be working at a Walgreens pharmacy today.

And how much evidence do we have that supports the belief that he wouldnt be able to rise to the top of his profession if born in another era. Zero

I think Pac-Bradley I could reasonably be scored 114-114. i thought the punchstats were way off too.

Mayweather-Maidana I was 114-114 too. And their second fight was very close too IMO.

Jack Dempsey is one of the most overrated fighters in history.

I think Prime RJJ wins >50% of the fights vs any one in history at 168 or less.
