What some unpopular boxing opinions you have? - wlad beats ali, esoecially 70's ali was a headhunter and clinched. This wouldnt work vs the taller Wlad with a great jab. - ali schools vitali, vitali's low hands lean back style doesnt work vs the quicker smaller Ali. - ricky hatton has a close fight with Floyd if not for Joe Cortez making the fight favourable for Floyd. - Floyd does better vs Hagler than expected. Same day weigh ins means Hagler at 5'85 and 157 would be closer in size vs the better boxer Floyd than people think. Duran had a close fight with Hagler and a better moving boxer like Floyd could cause all kinds of trouble. Still expect Hagler to edge it though or possibly late tko him. - a fully focused Hamed can beat Barrera. That was a 8-4 type fight where Haned wasnt schooled as badly as people think. He has a terrible preparaton and needed to cut so much weight. Fully focussed Haned can beat MAB. - AJ beats Fury. Fury ducks below when dodging and is open to the uppercut/left hook that AJ throws. I feel he would catch him and tko him with a combo.
People greatly overesrimate Hagler size compared to modern fighters who cut water weight before every fight.
On the topic of Hagler, the narrative of some is Leonard gained some kind of unnatural edge in negotiating for their fight to be 12 rounds. Fact is, Hagler hadn’t fought a schedule 15-rounder in 2 1/2 years at that point, against Hamsho the second time. Fifteen-round fights were well on the way out by then and were the exception more than the rule. Hagler vs. Mugabi and Hearns, his only two fights between Hamsho II and Leonard, were scheduled 12-rounders. If 15 was so important to Marvin, he’d have insisted that Hearns and Mugabi be scheduled for 15 instead of 12. I consider this to be more of an unpopular fact rather than opinion.
Hagler had far better offensive skills than Floyd and no way could Floyd deal with a great jabber like Hagler who had a 75 inch reach, Floyd would have to get past that jab to get inside. Pretty much describes Wlad.
All the great champions have been doped since the 80s. You just have to see the difference in bodies between the boxers of the 60s-70s and those of the 80s-90s to understand it.
Yeah, but headhunting/clinching a guy with 2x your physical strength, 20 pounds on you, and 4 inches of height/reach clearly means you have the stylistic disadvantage. Also Wlad had one of the best left hooks in history easily, and Ali is known as having a weakness to left hooks, being dropped and badly injured by Bivol sized (but less skilled) Henry Cooper. If somebody with a chin as good and as skilled as he was can be caught that off guard by a left hook, anybody with an ATG left hook is going to be a huge issue for him.
My amateur estimate (I rate my boxing knowledge 2.5/10(rated on this forum)) is 85% - 15% for Fury. That's what I judged in a story with a friend; so I thought. The most unpopular option: "Mike Tyson was nothing special."
My contribution to this thread... If boxing had been officionated fairly, Ali would have been a mere outsider or maybe never have been in the discussion of being the greatest heavyweight.
Marvin Hagler is overrated Sugar Ray Leonard beat Hagler 9-3. It wasnt a close fight. Maybe 8-4. Larry Holmes is the best Heavyweight ever Mike Tyson is the most overrated boxer ever Deontay Wilders H2H ability is underrated. Both Canelo vs GGG fights were draws. Sugar Ray Robinson's H2H abilities are greatly overrated. Most people that say that Sugar Ray Robinson is the goat just say that because they feel they are supposed to. Same with Ali. I agree with OP Anthony Joshua beats Tyson Fury. Manny Pacquiao is the reason why the fights with Floyd Mayweather didnt happen in 2010, not the other way around. Far too much is valued in the boxing history when these experts make these all time great lists. Many recent fighers should be ranked higher. Deontay Wilder is the hardest puncher in boxing history The top 90s heavyweights were great but most of those contenders are overrated Riddick Bowe wouldve beaten Lennox Lewis had they fought in 93 Antonio Tarver would always have had the edge over Roy Jones even if it was prime Roy Jones. Styles make fights. John Ruiz is wrongly overly criticized and should be celebrated more for being the massive overachiever that he was.
I'm not going to argue about opinions but objectively Mayweather said that even if Pacquiao submitted to all terms he wouldn't fight him until 2012 because he wanted 2010 and 2011 as a break.
