it is true, Foreman was an all time great in the making, but he had to fight Frazier to prove it. Going out on a limb before he fights Frazier would have been a gamble. It’s not plausible to predict that win without seeing it. If you need hindsight to be proven right you don’t know boxing. Without seeing Marciano beat Louis then Walcott I would not pick him to win, but because he did, and we have other fights like that on his resume Im forced to acknowledge his consistency at that level. Same with Holmes. Who picks him over Norton without knowing he beat him? Again, Ali was an all time great in the making, but he had to beat Liston to prove it. Going out on a limb before he fights Liston would have been a gamble. It’s not plausible to predict that win without seeing it. But go ahead and pick Ibeabuchi over great fighters.... Again, Sonny was an all time great in the making, but he had to beat Patterson to prove it. Going out on a limb to pick a one round win before he fights Floyd would have been a gamble. It’s not plausible to predict that one round win without seeing it. But go ahead and pick Ibeabuchi over great fighters.... This is a different kettle of fish. Ali had already exposed Foreman by then. The five man in one night farce “George does Canada” did not enthuse anyone. Struggling against Lyle was less of a surprise. Even the Young fight made sense after it happened. It did not make either fight something predictable. but what about career timing? With hindsight Frazier losing to Foreman is more understandable after the event because Frazier never won an important fight after the first Ali fight. That’s what finished him. One fighter coming down against a fighter going up is not prime vs prime. We don’t know what Ike Ibeabuchi’s prime was. Two fights? only if they are both ATGs. Frazier had big guys for breakfast. Buster Mathis. Manual Ramos.. we don’t know for sure if Ibeabuchi was destined to be more than they were. Who the hell are Tua and Bryd before they beat anybody decent in the scheme of boxing history? thanks powertank. if you say so powertank. if you say so powertank.have you got anything logical to back that up?
If Ike had stayed out of the slammer, he definitely could have at least won a portion of the title. He would have had at least a puncher's chance against Lewis. He could have outhustled a post-Lewis Holyfield. Byrd was able to get a portion of the title - we saw what he did to Byrd. I think he could have KTFO John Ruiz.
Ike was a solid fighter, maybe the champion or among the top 3 of today. watch his fight against Pickrom, a difficult fight in which he lost the first round and received some hits Pickrom was a dificult fight for the seventh fight, he surprised Mccline, another good victory
