Nice one mate :thumbsup ... proper fighter :deal. A Rudkin compilation should be required viewing for anyone just getting into watching the sport.
How the Hell did I miss this? Oh, yeah Al', still ain't got back to you on that vid' you sent me, slipped my mind...will take a look at that (after this mind you :happy)
I will mate, there's a break at the moment but he's been working hard in the gym and looking forward to next season.
Just got round to watching the Vega fight, Al, good stuff. Vega was on a pretty good winning streak too up to that point by the look of things. Funnily enough, I was talking to a bloke I know at the pub last night just after the local quiz league match. A boxing nut, like. We we're on about your old man and this bloke was quite a fan. He mentioned the Olivares fight, and I told him what you said about the lights going out in the changing rooms after the fight with your dad saying ''that's the second bloody time that this has happened to me tonight'' or whatever it was . Obviously he thought it was hilarious, but the bad news from my perspective was that he was taking a massive swig of his pint as he roared out laughing. Hence me being showered from head to ******* toe in John Smiths, falling backwards in surprise off the dodgy stool I was one and wiping out a bloke who was carrying a tray with about 6 pints on it. I found it quite funny until he threatened to take me out onto the carpark. Big ******* he was too.....he didn't hit me in the end though thankfully. Btw, I've been meaning to ask you about a couple of the decisions that went against your dad. Most of the (mainly British) newspaper clippings and write ups about the second Ben Ali fight that I've seen have it as being a bit of a typically **** Spanish hometown decision. Is that right? He beat Ben Ali quite clearly the first time iirc. About the Senin and Revie fights too? I can't find very much on them other than that Senin supposedly deserved to win. Info on the British fighting in Spain round about this time seems to be relatively scarce, though maybe not a surprise with the country still being under Franco's rule.
Me dad would of liked that story. Regarding the decisions that went against him. His second fight he got stopped on a cut by Carl Taylor later avenged. All the papers made him the winner against McGowan in the first fight. The referee resigned when the board asked him to explain his card. The Ben Ali was a bad one, all the british press made him the winner. The problem wasn't just Ali it was the ref who get grabbing me dad everytime he made an attack. He said it was like fighting 2 fellas in the ring. The Revie fight was fair. Revie was a tall rangy southpaw and me dad in his first fight at feather couldn't come to terms with it. He did though have a good finish which left Revie 2 points up i think. The Senin fight was a fair result as well. He was down I think at least a couple of times in the early rounds. He said the stoppage against Olivares helped him out here as he grabbed and spoiled against the Spaniard. I read that he came on strong towards the end in this one but he had no argument with the decision and rated Senin very highly. Senin retired a couple of years later and went into a monastry. He retired unbeaten in 43 fights. Stay out of trouble
Advice noted. Turns out that one of the spilled drinks was a lager and black which won't come out of my shirt. Thanks very much for that though. I knew that the first McGowan fight was a bit controversial and about the Taylor fights but thanks for confirming the other stuff, it basically confirms what I suspected. Re: the ref in the Ben Ali fight, I read that Buchanan got japped in a similar way against Velasquez. Nice to hear that he was magnanimous about the Revie and Senin results though. Interesting career choice for Senin too.
