The lefties who were taught to fight orthodox, who are some notable fighters trained like this? I know of:

    De La Hoya
    James Corbett
    Jim Jeffries
    Gerry Cooney
    Carmen Basilio

are a few. Can anyone name some more converted southpaws? Would these guys be better off fighting as southpaws?

Your boy Miguel Cotto. I don't understand what made Oscar choose to go orthy.

I once heard a rumor that Sugar Ray Robinson is left handed. I seen him write with his right hand though. Any truth to this left handedness story?

Cotto ain't my boy. I respect him but man.... his losses hurt him as a fighter quite a bit. Dunno about SRR being reversed, would explain that dirty dirty hook n'stick though.

    Donaire is one of these.

Would explain why he was obsessed with the left hook as a child.

It feels weird to play orthy. Throwing a straight right hand feels mad awkward.

so it was a left hander who invented the left hook.

it feels just as weird throwing a straight left, although if you've trained up a good left i wonder how it would feel, an Unorthodox? a righty fighting southpaw? are there any of those?

i think what probably happened was that they chose a liking for their style early on and when they became good at boxing it seemed to make more sense for them to stay with their bread and butter style.

    I believe Hatton fights converted.

I think Michael Moorer is a right-hander that fights southpaw. Urango I've heard also.

marvin is the one guy who was so well balenced its hard to tell if he was a left handed south paw since when he switched he looked just as natural as a righty. Usualy if a boxer fights with his best hand forward he sits down on his front foot rather than his back foot.

when I met marvin, he is right handed, he wrote his autograph with his right hand. when I said "you use your right hand to write and you were a southpaw?" he said "sure, I write with my right hand and wipe my ass with my left!" then roared with laughter. he explained that he is good with both, if the leverage is there you can fight both ways.

henry cooper is left handed. pinklon thomas is also a left handed orthadox fighter.
