Question was about fighters who have never been stopped. Plenty have never been 'knocked out'. You're actually backing up my point. Chuvalo had a great chin, but was still stopped twice. No-one is unstoppable in boxing.
Very well. I actually don't consider him unknockoutable, myself (precious few in the sport's history are). Having him as the poster child for "KO's waiting to happen, who happened to never be KO'ed" - which kind of struck me at first as the spirit of the thread - just rang false for me. :good
Why calzaghe btw? He got dropped at the age of 36/37 and was up straight away looking fine. Same earlier in his career. As pointed out earlier the powers of recovery ar often more or as important as the ability to take flash KDs. People seem to treat calzaghe like he was mid 20s for the fight vs Hopkins and Jones.
Nah, Popkins is good people. He's never struck me as a hater or a hidden-agenda type. Like I said, JMM just didn't ring true as the forerunning example for this thread, to me personally. Like you said, it's just my opinion and opinions will differ. No sweat. How about Vadim Tokarev? If he'd run into Adamek or Haye while they were still around, he might have been stopped by accumulation if not cold knockout; the best he faced were plodding punchers in Ding and Huck, and a slick but fragile Cora. A combination of height, speed, skill, and strength disadvantages looming over him might have been enough to overwhelm him. Huck was able to tag him quite a bit, but is a lazy finisher and not a terribly crisp puncher, compared to the likes of Adamek or Haye.
One thing guys like Hamed, JMM and Calzaghe have in common is that they have the ability to recover and jump up straight away, maybe not as much Calzaghe but definately Hamed and JMM, both have been down several times, often up to 3 times in one fight, but they both just jump up straight away, with no shakey legs, it really is quite amazing, they have been down. Then there are guys like Toney, who can just take these huge shots without even blinking, another guy who I think has the best chin in boxing (Although as he gets older it may start to go) is Vitali Klitschko, although he rarely has to take huge shots, the shots he took in that Lewis fight were insane. Its not even like he rolls with the punches like Toney he can just take them. Oh and Pacmans chin is definately worth a mention too.
i think the TS is looking for fighters that never been stopped, but really didn't look unstoppable throughout their careers. like someone said, JMM is a good example. he doesn't look unstoppable (he was downed several times), but never been stopped/KOed.
