Just wondered if anyone can point out fighters who are interesting to study who do not get much/any props. I'm not talking about famous champs or famous fighters who did not get a title chance but fighters we hear little or nothing about.

I have an interest in fighters who get little or no recognition, as an example I have been looking into the careers of Matty Matthews & Rube Ferns the former WW champs. Another fighter is Phil Brock who was a lightweight contender/gatekeeper in the 1900's/1910's.

Are there any fighters you can recommend looking at that could be of interest for whatever the reason?

Ellsworth Spider Webb - in 1958 fought Former and future world Middleweight Champ, Gene Fullmer, and Lost on Points - also that year Beat future champs Dick Tiger, Joey Giardello and Terry Downes - Giardello and Downes inside the distance - the 58' Corvette was not the only sporty Model cruising along in fine style that year.

Garland (Rip) Randall was by all accounts a fierce Crowd pleaser, but Career and indeed Life curtailed in Vietnam. A Decorated soldier and the first Boxer to die on the front line i am led to belive.

Randy Shields...all the guy needed was a punch and he would have been champ..he would have beaten Cuevas and shocked the boxing world.
