I saw a thread like this a while ago and found it interesting so I thought I'd reintroduce it. What are your opinions of classic fights, fighters etc which people usually don't subscribe to. Here's to start it of- I find Felix Trinidad a boring fighter to watch when he's not blasting people out in a round or two.

I am far more impressed with finishing ability than punching power. That's why guys like Leonard and Ali were so terrific--it wasn't their 1 punch power. And finishing ability becomes far more crucial and important once facing top 10 opposition.

67 Ali gets KOed by a prime Foreman. Prime Gavilan beats a prime Leonard at welterweight. Langfords win over Gans is possibly the most overrated win of all time.

Apologies for the typo, would you agree with me, or do you actually think it's a great win?

I guess you mean his win over Wills?

Yes, I would say it was a great win. Wills fought an absolutely sick level of opposition over the course of his career, and nobody else ever knocked him out, except Paulino Uzcdun in his last fight when he was a shell.

Again, I would have to defend it.

Langford was 17 at the time and had been fighting profesionaly for less than a year.

Gans had been up drinking late the night before, but he was probably the best pound for pound fighter on the planet at the time.

Lets not forgett also that Gans was the consensus #1 lightweight of all time until Benny Leonard came along.

Imagine if some kid in his first year took a fight against a complacent Floyd Mayweather and somehow bested him.

Yer but he really wasn't. He lost to Blackburn just a month before and then had a fight the day before he fought Langford.

So it would be more like beating a mayweather that had just lost a month before then had a fight the day before, whilst having to travel by train to the fight overnight.

The largely unheralded Pastrano-Johnson bout was one of the most brilliant and beautiful displays of boxing and style from both men, especially Pastrano, who, like Buster Douglas, scaled a height for a title winning fight that he never reached before or since. Yes, that womanizing, feather-fisted, erratic, dancing master Willie Pastrano, whom no one rates in their top 20 lightheavyweight lists (I think lists are **** anyway). It dosen't matter that the decision was so close and disputed.

That Marciano, Louis, Lewis, and Johnson are overrated. Louis is by far the best out of these but still overrated.

bob fitzsimmons trick of winning the middle, light heavy and heavyweight titles is overrated. he won white versions of all those titles and light heavy was hardly a respected division back in those days but the actual wins over corbett and dempsey were great for sure.

David Tua is terribly overrated head to head. He was outboxed by several fighters, and outpunched by a guy who was totally unproven. Essentially he is George Chuvalo with an A+ left hook.
