Hmmm - to all the Brits who said that Malik Scott rose at 9 so deserved to be stopped. Surely you think Geale should have won the fight over the weekend? I don't - Barker deserved the win but Scott also deserved the chance to keep on fighting. I had the feeling that Scott would have prevailed - just like Barker did. That is the biggest problem with fighting in an opponents backyard - you so often have to fight the dodgy ref as well.

Not so sure. Malik was was getting consistently rocked by those Chisora hooks and giving away rounds(IMO) in the process. Of course there's always the chance that Chisora could have gassed(Malik's plan?) and given the fight away in the last few rounds but Derek still looked relatively fresh when the fight was stopped.

Scott could've easily had the chance to continue fighting.

    He didn't want it.

Why hold it against the ref when Malik's heart clearly wasn't in prolonging the fight?

    Good point.

They are similar, only Barker was hurt much worse and visibly less steady than Scott was.

They both looked fresh. Thats the thing. Barker got up at 9 just like Scott but he was hurt. It looked like geale was about to knock him down again with every punch he threw.
I was surprised that the ref did not stop Barker, he could have but for our luck he did not do so.

I was thinking about this. If you watch it again Barker is up before nine, he was hurt much worse than Scott though obviously and was lucky it was in the US because a British ref would have waved it off when he was staggering around not firing back for twenty seconds or so.

Really seemed like Scott didn't want to carry on, ref did him a favour with the controversy really, though the ref was in the wrong.

UK refs do tend to stop fights fairly quickly, I understand some people get annoyed at it, as I do too sometimes. But no one wants the aftermath Benn vs mcclellan again.
