In order to make an accurate judgement on how HBO is performing vs. Showtime in boxing telecast quality, one needs to look at this on a month to month basis for the whole year and its context. For example, based on the current schedule and as many have already indicated on this thread, I agree that HBO beats Showtime in October and November. However, one must not overlook the fact that Showtime beats HBO in December.

Going back in time in 2013:

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

September Verdict: Showtime beats HBO (Mega PPV Event, Quality, & Action)

    Showtime -
Mayweather vs. Alvarez, Matthysse vs. Garcia, Molina vs. Smith

    HBO -
Chavez Jr. vs. Vera, Stevenson vs. Cloud

August Verdict: Showtime beats HBO (Action Fights)

    Showtime -
Mares vs. Gonzalez, Leo Santa Cruz vs. Victor Terrazas

    HBO -
Geale vs. Barker, Cleverly vs. Kovalev, Romero vs. Martinez, and Dulorme vs. Figueroa

July Verdict: Showtime beats HBO (Action Fights)

    Showtime -
Berto vs. Soto Karrass, Figueroa vs. Arakawa, Thurman vs. Chavez

    HBO -
Schiming vs. Ortega, Estrada vs. Melindo, Gradovich vs. Munoz

June Verdict: Showtime beats HBO: (Maidana vs. Lopez Slugfest)

    Showtime -
Broner vs. Malignaggi, Mitchell vs. Banks, Bika vs. Periban,
Maidana vs. Lopez, Lara vs. Angulo, Charlo vs. Hopkins

    HBO -
Golovkin vs. Macklin, Oosthuizen vs. Gonzalez, Nelson vs. Cuello
Garcia vs. Lopez, Crawford vs. Sanabria
Dawson vs. Stevenson, Gamboa vs. Perez

May Verdict: Showtime beats HBO (Huge PPV Event, Quality, Action Fights):

    Showtime -
Matthysse vs. Peterson, Alexander vs. Purdy
Mayweather vs. Guerrero, Mares vs. Ponce De Leon, Santa Cruz vs. Munoz

    HBO -
    Froch vs. Kessler II

April Verdict: HBO beats Showtime (Quality - No Contest):

    Showtime -
Garcia vs. Judah, Quillin vs. Guerrero
Alvarez vs. Trout, Figueroa vs. Cotto

    HBO -
Martinez vs. Murray, Abregu vs. Decaire, Arreola vs. Stiverne
    Donaire vs. Rigondeaux
Shiming vs. Valenzuela, Martinez vs. Magdaleno, Villoria vs. Estrada

March Verdict: HBO beats Showtime (Pre GBP/Showtime Era):

    Showtime -
Abril vs. Bogere, Russel Jr. vs. Gusev

    HBO -
Rios vs. Alvarado II, Crawford vs. Prescott
Bradley vs. Provodnikov, Vargas vs. Omotoso
Cloud vs. Hopkins, Thurman vs. Zaveck
    Salgado vs. Mendez

February Verdict: HBO beats Showtime (Pre GBP/Showtime Era):

    HBO -
Broner vs. Reese, Bika vs. SJekloka

January Verdict: HBO beats Showtime (Pre GBP/Showtime Era):

    HBO -
Salido vs. Garcia, Golovkin vs. Rosado, Martinez vs. Burgos

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

In conclusion, from the above, the more accurate assesment of the thread is that HBO has had the better quality fights programmed in only 6 months of 2013. Now, this is only based on my opinion but the fact that it can even be somewhat arguable should be alarming to a leading producer. Furthermore, when one considers that the GBP/ Showtime Era didn't start until April, it is hard not to predict that Showtime can have a better 2014 and future.

Another assesment that can be made is which of the two networks has produced the most fight of the year contenders:

HBO's top fight of the year contenders of 2013 to date:

    Rios vs. Alvarado II
    Bradley vs. Provodnikov
    Arreola vs. Stiverne
    Villoria vs. Estrada
    Froch vs. Kessler

and fights that could make the list by the end of the year:

    Marquez vs. Bradley
    Alvarado vs. Provodnikov
    Pacquiao vs. Rios

Showtime's top fight of the year contenders of 2013 to date:

    Matthysse vs. Peterson
    Mares vs. Ponce De Leon
    Maidana vs. Lopez
    Berto vs. Soto Karass
    Matthysse vs. Garcia

and fights that could make the list by the end of the year:

    Broner vs. Maidana
    Thurman vs. Soto Karass

HBO in Nov and SHO in Dec. Rigo Agbeko is a bit better than Paulie Judah, which is a lame main event, but the SHO undercard is very good.
