I'm pretty sure Pac just take the money and skip out on the fight. He would probably either have to take the money and fight, or not collect the fine and not fight. Given that there is a stipulation in the event that Cotto comes in overweight, Pac would be in breech of the contract and would open to all sorts of lawsuits.

The WBO has no rules that state that a WW fight can't take place at a maximum weight of 145lbs.

Cotto says he has no problem making 145. He's the one who suggested the weight. Why would he come in over that weight and have to fork over at least $1,000,000 to Pac? I think Pac would actually be happy if this happened.

I don't know why there's so much fuss about this. It's only the WBO title, not a genuine world championship.

That was my original thought too, but 1 mil per pound is a lot of money...

if pacman gets the title, its history in the world of boxing. its doesnt matter if the belt worth $10, the fact of the matter is, its the title that they are up. Some dumb shits dont bother to understand this.

some shitholes think that cotto going down to 145 is a very big disadvantage to him thus fighting 160 vs 148 at fight night isnt.

So if Pacman wins can he continue to defend this title at whatever weight he wants?

Nothing to stop him turning it in to a 141lb limit division.

like I was saying, nothing prevents Cotto from coming in at 147lbs. He can just do it and fork over the 2M.$ which is normal since he will have a massive size advantage. The title would not get stripped.

This article was published Aug 09. Later news was agreed for a diamond belt for the winner of the fight. I believe this is old news and have changed since.
