Dear friends and fans, It has now been some days since the fight in Oakland. I have had the time to evaluate what actually happened before, during and after the fight. Having done that, one thing is for sure: Andre Ward certainly picked the right tactic on the right day! He was better than me on the day and deserved his victory. I never really found an answer to his fast and difficult style - and that fact has kept me sleepless for several nights! I would like to express my disappointment about my performance in Oakland - I did not perform at the level that I know I am able to perform at. Taking that into consideration, my team and I have used the last couples of days to evaluate the entire preparation and the actual fight. We have left no stone unturned. We have now made a serious plan for how to move on. New resources have been implemented in the team, which gives me the necessary tools to act upon guys like Ward and Froch - fighters who do not give me the best opportunities to control the fight the way I like to control it. And believe me I will do anything to beat Froch. Having the fight in my backyard with the support of my home crowd, I will not disappoint my fans and the experts who considered me one of the favourites to win this great tournament. The training gloves are back on - and they will not be taken off before I am 110% ready for Froch. Thank you for the support in Oakland! All my thoughts go to Volbeat! I hope you are on your feet again, Michael! /Mikkel Kessler "New resources implemented in the team" ???? Hmmm... A new trainer ??? Who could Sauerland dig up ??
Good news that he is accepting that things need changing. It's interesting what he says about Froch, almost as if he is anticipating a very difficult fight. I think his confidence has taken a major blow.
Kess is a quality guy, im backing him to beat Froch, who in reality is not on his level. With home support I see him winning comfortably.
good to hear from mikkel. a 100% kessler, confident in himself and his abilities, should be able to beat froch and be right back in this thing and have another championship. that's the beauty of this tourney.
He'll grab the WBC belt next and get right back into things. :smoke The super middleweight tournament is far from over yet. It's just started!
good to see his gracious in defeat, we'll see if he's able to change up his gameplan. i doubt it though, at this stage in his career its hard to learn new things and execute them on the world stage. if he were a heavyweight then i would give him the benefit of the doubt since most heavies blossom late in their career. but a SMW is a young mans division which is the case for lower weight classes. well, unless your b-hop or mosley lol.
* Get a new trainer and/or corner * Work on infighting * Work on countering dirty tactics when they come up * Get the timing you had before the Joe Calz fight. * PLEASE work to use the uppercut more again. Ward is there for that shot.
Hopefully Ward was a wake up call, I expect to see the old Kessler against Froch, hungry for revenge.
Sauerland's head coach, that old grumpy and extremely authoritarian guy who is in AA's corner would be a great trainer in Kessler's corner, too. Well,I somehow doubt that he can be in both fighters' corners when they face each outher in the super six tournament
