i bet calzaghe would love to spar with kessler to help him beat froch after all the mouthing froch did to calz.
Mikkel SERIOUSLY needs to work on his defense such as head movement and blocking punches. He needs to know when to double the jab or throw a right hand. Mikkel needs improvement in a lot of areas.
Good. Now there can be no excuses if Kessler runs into any other trouble in the future. That's best for everyone.
One thing he definitely needs is more ringtime against quality opposition. His opponents since the Calzaghe fight haven't helped him much.
It was truly refreshing to read a fighters public assessment of his performance in defeat!! The only way forward is to accept and learn from your defeat(s) and I hope this class guy makes the necessary improvements to his camp to ensure his progress in the tournament. His confidence has obviously been shaken (He was decisively beaten by Ward) but if this post is a true reflection of his attitude and intent then he should (Imo) get himself back on track by beating Froch (who's style makes him an ideal opponent for Mikkel).
Hilliarious, you actually think Dirrell was treated better by the ref than Kessler. Dirrell and Froch was a foul-both-ways fight. Kessler-Ward only one guy was doing the fouling (if you don't count Dan Goossen).
He didn't have to criticize Wards fouls anymore - Ward was swimming in Sh** for a week after the fight for the way he was fighting. At least Kessler isn't in denial anymore - unlike Ward, quote "I'm not a dirty fighter".
If that is "peak physical condition" in his eyes, he needs a new optician too. He was slow, appeared unmotivated = lack of explosiveness, couldn't go a high volume, and lacked anything remotely resembling something that could be called "reflex" from the distance when Ward did his lunging in. If it's not his diet, his physical training has to be adapted A LOT. Being able to run a marathon does not give the same condition you need to do a series of sprints. So if his trainers let him do anaerobic long term endurance stuff, he gets unable to fight in spurts at a higher tempo, which is necessary in a boxing match with someone who is not slow as a dune himself. And if he doesn't fix that, he will lose more matches. So it's in his best interest when his pals don't go the "everything we did was rite and mighty fine, it was just a bad day" route. Excuses never helped anyone to fix a problem.
Excactly!! I'm at work and didn't have time to go into details, but this was what I meant. His Fitness was through the roof for this fight. As you state this doesn't really help you in a boxing match. This just enables you to take a beating for 12 rounds :yep Apparantly they had neglected boxing fundamentals and sparring in favor of more endurance training. This is what I've heard at least.
