Update: No official word yet, I haven't heard anything official...but from these news reports (check the video and article link), it looks like it's going to be delayed.

Kiev - Ukrainian boxing star Vitali Klitschko said on Saturday he halted training for an upcoming fight to take part in a "battle for democratic values" following the arrest of opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko.

Klitschko said in his blog on the news site Ukrainska Pravda that he returned to Kiev as soon as he learned that the former Prime Minister had been arrested for contempt of court during her abuse of power trial.

He is currently in training to fight Poland's Tomasz Adamek for the WBC Heavyweight Championship in September.

"When I learned what had happened in Ukraine, I stopped training for the fight and returned to Kiev as far as I understand that the real battle for democratic values is unfolding here - in Ukraine - and I cannot be an observer in this situation," said Klitschko.

The politically-committed fighter said that Ukraine's democracy was being "destroyed" on the eve of the 20th anniversary of its independence.

"If this continues, we will forever live in a dictatorship and total corruption and the development of civil society will be forgotten," he wrote.

I admire Vitali, and his dedication. Every time I hear about him involved in something political, I worry about him getting poisoned, imprisoned, etc....

The reporter in this video says in regard to Vitali, "he'll delay his title defense" against Adamek in order to draw attention to the arrest. I don't know if "he'll delay" means it will be delayed, or that it's an option, but if I were to guess, I'd lean towards the first.

But can he really make a difference by going to kiev at this point? Its nice that he is suporting her but it wont change much in the grand scheme of things.
Him beating adamek with a orange flag in his pocket would probably help more along with some sharp comments on the situation during the press conferenses.

Vitaly has the proper perspective on what is beneficial in the long run. The struggle for autonomy of a fledgeling Nation's plight against self serving, pervasive elements is far more important than some boxing match.

However; I am certain the overfed, ignorant masses will find fault with his reserve and value system, ironic considering the stark absence of any moral compass dictating the actions of their own selfish existances.

Ukraine is such a joke right now. My father is from there and half of my family lives there and its just a utter joke. There is poverty everywhere, and people from Ukraine were use to not working at all when they were under communism, and when capitalism came they still were not ready to work like a true capitalist nation.

Thus, the country is just failing. But then there's corruption. It's saddening to see that the Orange Revolution later was just ruined by the current President of Ukraine who was corruptly voted in.

It's funny because the complete opposite is occurring in Poland. The country is completely developed and will soon be one of the top 5 nations in Europe. There is literally no poverty, and as Poland becomes more capitalist the country just gets better and better.

I feel for Vitali, but with all the corruption in Ukraine I feel like he can't do much.

Is capitalism so likeable? Look at the worldwide problemes. Vitali cannot save the Ukraine and he can not change things. Corruption is a worldwide problem not only a problem in the Ukraine.

Vitali decided to fight Adamek so he should concentrate for this fight.

To brake training is not a good idea.

And how long will he cut the training? One day, two? What does he mean, he can do in such a short time?

Or will Vitali cancel the fight?

Vitali is trying to do the honorable thing - Not that she's a saint, but the timing and context of Tymoshenko's trial and imprisonment are suspect to say the least. But Vitali, as a sports guy won't do **** all. She already has die hard support from certain people in the country, the EU as well as the States, which see her as a symbol of democracy. Vitali won't be able to do much in comparison to these entities. However, should he lose to Adamek due to ill prepardness it will do great harm to the ego of that country.......I mean, they really don't have very many elite sports teams or sports men at this time.

Vitali could still set up camp in Ukraine if he needs to, can't see him getting out of shape, if he breaks training for very long he should cancel the fight, reset it at a later date.....................if Vitali is not 100%, he will still knock Adamek out.............

Yeah, with all the advantages he has, what the **** does he need to train for? If he pulls out, he found his excuse for not losing to the smaller Pole, which would be a disgrace!

So, who would win a no-holds barred fight? Vitali or Putin?

Putin is a mean mofo, with very good grappling skills - but I think Vitali would take it.

    From Putin's wiki:

One of Putin's favorite sports is the [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martial_art"]martial art[/ame] of [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judo"]judo[/ame]. Putin began training in sambo (a [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martial_art"]martial art[/ame] that originated in the [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_Union"]Soviet Union[/ame]) at the age of 14, before switching to judo, which he continues to practice today.[283] Putin won competitions in his hometown of [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Petersburg"]Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg)[/ame], including the senior championship of Leningrad. He is the President of the Yawara Dojo, the same Saint Petersburg [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dojo"]dojo[/ame] he practiced at when young. Putin co-authored a book on his favorite sport, published in Russian as Judo with Vladimir Putin and in English under the title Judo: History, Theory, Practice (2004).[284]
Though he is not the first world leader to practice judo, Putin is the first leader to move forward into the advanced levels. Currently, Putin holds a 6th [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan_rank"]dan[/ame] (red/white belt) and is best known for his [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harai_Goshi"]Harai Goshi[/ame] (sweeping hip throw).[[ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed"]citation needed[/ame]] Putin earned [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_of_Sports"]Master of Sports[/ame] (Soviet and Russian sport title) in [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judo"]Judo[/ame] in 1975 and in Sambo in 1973. At a state visit to Japan, Putin was invited to the [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kodokan_Institute"]Kodokan Institute[/ame], the judo headquarters, where he showed different judo techniques to the students and Japanese officials.
