Update on boxrec has Marciano’s tallest opponent at 6”5

    Going into this fight Rocky Marciano had defended his title against the #1 Ring contender four times in a row.

    This didn't happen for more than a decade after Lennox Lewis retired.

    Can't we grant him a gimme in those circumstances?

    If you can even call a #2 contender that.

    No one is denying that just saying he also fought guys who were not #1 Valdez certainly would have been high ranking even when not #1. And he was #1 for quite awhile but Marciano never fought him. He probably was the highest ranking fighter during Mariano’s reign that he never fought. Does that prove they ducked him no it does not but he has the size many feel would have been a very tough matchup for Rocky. Al Weill was nobody’s fool so many people connect the dots.

    I think Marciano would have beaten Valdes,but it would have been nice to have it confirmed!
