Arum (Top Rank matchmakers) won't let it happen if they feel it isn't at least an even fight. They might not even allow it unless they are sure of Gamboa. Just the way they work. TR does do his promotion don't they?

They also do Rios's and Rios is more important at the moment to TR than Gamboa is . Hell, they have never treated Gamboa's career as their priority. Even when Lopez-Gamboa was heated up, they always protected lopez and treated him as their baby.

OK. Just checked. Gamboa is 30 and Rios is 25 so I can see TR thinking there isn't enough upside to Gamboa. Mexican population much bigger demographic than Cuban. If the fight DOESN'T happen it means Top Rank still sees some upside in him then.

RIOS: I ONLY TOOK OFF TWO WEEKS AFTER MY LAST FIGHT. I WANT BIG FIGHTS!

The always colorful Bam Bam Brandon Rios recently reached out to BoxeoMundial, never at a loss for words we discussed weight issues, fight plans, the expectant birth of Brandon II and everything in-between.
The undefeated former WBA lightweight champion lost his title on the scales in his last fight back on December 03, 2011 not able to get down to the 135 lb. weight limit. The fight with John Murray moved forward with the 135 lb. strap vacant with only Murray eligible to win the title. Despite the outcome with all the prefight disappointments title or no title, Brandon did not disappoint and put on arguably the best fight on the card in a fight that had all out action in all eleven rounds before Referee Earl Brown called a halt to the action at 2:06 in round eleven.
After the fight there has been much speculation in the media and fans weather or not Brandon would leave the division and head north five pounds to the hot junior welterweight division. Rios made it very clear in our discussion that due to fault of his own he was not able to make the weight back in December and he clearly intends to get right back in the saddle and pursue a big fight in the division before moving up in weight. “I have to put blame on myself for not making weight, it was not conditions in Mexico or anything else. It was my fault, and I accept that and I am going to fix my mistakes. I wasn’t eating the right foods and my eating wasn’t right” stated Rios. Moving forward Team Rios has teamed up with a nutritionist to get things back on track. “I know I can make 135, we have teamed up with the (Cecilio) Flores who also works with Sergio Martinez. He has me on the right path and I know I will be good to go. I only took two weeks off after my last fight to spend with my family, only two weeks and I am back at it. I want a big fight before I move up. I want big fights.”
In regards to a proposed March 3rd fight with John Molina in a HBO double header that was to also have Gamboa as the co-main, Brandon would let me know that he is ready to fight anyone that his manager puts in front of him, “from what I understand, he (Molina) priced himself out of the fight with me. So we are moving forward, from what I hear there are two possible dates on the table. March 3rd or April 14th and I hope something can be worked out for me to fight Gamboa. But I will fight whoever, I trust my management team (Cameron Dunkin) to do what is the best for me.”
In parting, Brandon would leave on this note. “I want to thank all my fans, I love my fans very much. And to those who hate on me, well, just keep on hating. I also want to let the world know that I am very proud and excited for the coming birth of my son. Brandon the second, he will be here on April 20th. I can’t wait to get in the ring”
