Gerry looked like he would hold the title for a long time after this. He made the fatal mistake of thinking he was good enough to overcome the controvsarial scoring in Asia though. He did enough to beat Tokuyama, but it was all to easy for the judges to disagree whilst surrounding by thousands of screaming Asians.
Thanks for these vids you're posting just now Addie. I've always been a fan of how composed Penalosa looked, it's one of the things that i like most about boxers, when they look totally in control. See in round 6 there his defence is effortless and effective, and Kawashima about mid way through tries to mix it up to pierce the guard of Gerry, he tries it by doing a little side shuffle to his own left probably to slip a right hand through the gloves. But gerry's onto it, very clever fighter, and slick.
