This is compelling viewing if I've ever seen it. An entertaining two way slug-fest with peak Johnny Tapia going at it in front of his hometown fans fighting for his first world title at Super Flyweight. What more do you want? Great fight and good post Addie:good I remember this fight like almost yesterday, **** has time gone byatsch I remember being happy for Tapia in this fight as this was almost like his second career. Before this he had done a little time behind bars and was going through substance abuse problems. I believe Ring had this as comeback of the year. He really got the crowd into this and was totally pumped up for this and ever the entertainer.
First time I've really seen peak Tapia outside of the Romero fight...he was an exceptional fighter. Awesome combination's, the way he dug that left hook to the body...everything, hand speed, was brilliant. If he was more disciplined he'd probably rarely have gotten hit at this time...but I wouldn't have it any other way. His passion was what made him so popular.
