When I look at the fighters from the Golden era, alot of them used the uppercut regularly and with effectiveness. The uppercut was the forte for many many fighter. But u look at the fighters today and only a very few of them can use this punch effectively.. Fighters such as Marquez, Judah, Morales are a few who knows how to utilize the uppercut.. Is it out of fear of being countered??? SO many fighters nowadays have limited amount of weapons in their arsenal.. Take Wlad for example.. His main punches are the jab, straight right, and the occasional left hook and that's probably why people find him boring... I love fighters who mix up their punches and that are effective with it... YES IM TALKING ABOUT MARQUEZ.. and even Nonito Donaire... Thoughts?
Yeah and Bertos is sick too. I dont know why PPL dont throw that much anymore, to me its the most devasting punch you can throw
Berto's uppercut is wild and primitive.. Anybody can throw an uppercut but the question is whether they can land it flush or not.. It's about distance and timing and berto doesnt know how to calculate that.. He just kind of throws it out there..
Thoughts? Well Marquez is God and the uppercut is my favourite punch. A uppercut KO looks devastating and sick. Calzaghe was memorably nailed by a few uppercuts in the Kessler and Jones fights If the uppercut was a football move, it would be the overhead kick
He does manage to get a nice spray from his opponents' heads though... it's a thing of beauty http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dERgTBonUKw I loved Tyson's combination of right hook to the body followed up by a right uppercut, it was absolutely destructive.
I dont know Finto, it seems to me Berto lands 80% of his uppercuts. PPL just cant take those, and the 1 he threw against Rodriguez was crazy. thats why I always gave him a shot against Cotto because Cotto eats uppercuts for lunch and dinner!!
Marquez's uppercut is incredible. Especially considering that he's not that fast so he relies on a great sense of distance and timing. Yeah, it is weird that it isn't used so much. Especially when they hurt their opponents and their opponents sort of duck or lower their heads, it would seem like a great opportunity to finish with an uppercut but it doesn't seem to happen.
