[URL=http://s1236.photobucket.com/u...01/Mobile Uploads/image_zps5422c8d7.jpg[/IMG] Hey guys I was watching fights in espn and seen a guy throw a uppercut with his thumb pointed towards him almost? Is this a liable punch or was it just out of mistake? I googled some uppercut variations regarding this and here's a pic of what I'm talking about? Does anyone know of this punch? An uppercut with vertical fist/thumb towards yourself?
Its a technique that can be used to open up someones guard a little. can also then be followed up by a normal uppercut through the hole created
So I've heard......the main reason I posted this thread was to see if I can get some footage of someone doing it. That's why I['m skeptical because I dont think I have ever seen in a boxing match or video this uppercut thrown.
It is used in okinawan karate and is called a "rising punch" and is used as a tool to go through a guard or attack the head on a taller opponent. I'm sure that it has been around in boxing for a very long time too, but the larger gloves have made it obsolete. Old school boxers like Dempsey often used the vertical fist for their jabs.
