I'll start with the one Azumah Nelson landed on Pat Cowdell......

Don't know about you guys but the one punch i hated getting caught with was the uppercut.

For me it was also the bloody hardest to defend against!

I was sitting behind Lottie Mwale when Matthew Saad Muhammad landed that devastating uppercut. All I could see was droplets of water and sweat literally flying upward from Mwale's head, not the punch itself. I had to ask someone if Muhammad landed with a left or right when throwing the uppercut. It remains the most memorable knockout that I have seen in person.

Muhammad Ali Professional Sports (MAPS) promoted the bout. As usual for MAPS, the cost of the promotion was many times more than the gate receipts. I remember reading about one MAPS promotion which cost ten times more than the total gate receipts. As it turned out, the funds used to pay for the MAPS promotions came from money, about fifteen million dollars, which was embezzled from a Beverly Hills branch of Wells Fargo Bank.

Yeah uppercut most likely is. It's the punches you can't see that do the most damage and the uppercut usually blindsides its victim. Not to mention, a boxer's neck is probably gets more accustomed taking punches from a more horizontal direction.

    Hi Chuck1052

Thanks for the Info - Glad your box of Popcorn did not contain Lottie's Head smiling up at You !! - re the strange accounting practises associated with the Promotions as i recall there was an intersting book on the subject called "Empire of Deceit" whereby the promoter had an accomplice in the Wells Fargo Bank, setting up bogus accounts, apparently one day they the filled out some forms in the wrong order...and alarm bells rang...Computer Say's NO !! Call the Ledger Police....

It is my understanding that in order to pull off the embezzlement, an individual had to be at work every day to keep it from being discovered, even going as far as not taking any vacation days.

On his popular radio sports show in Los Angeles when the MAPS scandal took place, Jim Healy played a sound bite of a popular Country record by the Gatlin Brothers which contained the following lyric, "All the gold in California is in a bank in Beverly Hills under somebody else's name..."

Uppercuts can be devastating. But don't underestimate a big liver shot.

You often dont see uppercuts coming inside... and as the old adage goes, it's the punch you dont see that...

Exactly right. Fighters who opt for the peek-a-boo defence often get caught by one up the middle that they don't see and it finishes their night.

I often wonder why uppercuts are not thrown on the inside. Perhaps the punch is a bit like a hook. You're either a natural at it or you can mechanically learn it.

And the non natural types seldom use it? Uppercut ting a heavy bag properly is a bit difficult. You need a horizontal bag to do it right.
