Compared to the year of the upset in 2008, not a lot of big upsets going on in 2009.

Which upset is in the lead for this year so far?

    Margarito/Mosely
    Viloria/Solis
    Mijares/Cermeno
    Cordoba/Dunne
    Cook/Martinez
    Reyes/Julio Diaz
    Afloabi/Enzo Macaroni

I am going to say Margirto vs Mosley. Margarito had just "demolished" Cotto, he "seemed" unstoppable, and was the "king" at the WW. Although he had a 12th round KO of Mayorga, Mosley didn't look spectacular; the consensus was that sugar shane was fading away like a cube of sugar on a hot ice tea.

I agree with you. But that is one tortured simile.

I can understand Mosely/Margo, but Mosely wasnt that big of an underdog and had his fair share of people picking him.

I voted for Viloria over Solis, Solis is a beast and Viloria was damaged goods, there was barely a handful of people picking Viloria.

hmm says... I put Margarita and Mosley as well cause of that crazy victory triangle with Cotto involved that made the fight intriguing and fall heavily upon Margarita as the favorite.

i don't there is much in the way of an upset that compares to mosley v. margarito. all handwraps aside, shane looked so shot, so old, so clueless, so inefficient against mayorga and i refused to chalk it up to mayorga fighting an awkward fight, being strong and heavy, neutralizing shane's speed advantage for most of the fight and so on. i just thought back to watching shane at lightweight, marvel that he was and wrote him off, thinking a great fighter and first ballot hall of famer had overstayed his welcome and was doomed to get beat up by the sort of sloppy and slow but rough, tough and strong margarito. then, out of nowhere, shane just beats the crap out of margo every minute of every round. shane cuts off the ring at smart angles, times margo perfectly, takes his shots well and gives him shots that give margo jelly legs in return. hell, mayorga fought shane pretty tough and pretty close until the knockout, margo just got his ass schooled and kicked for the duration. shane looked so fresh, so strong, so accurate, so vigorous...i couldn't believe it...upset of the year so far.

just out of curiousity, if viloria was damaged goods and solis was a beast, if that was your perception, why would you call the fight in advance for viloria? you must be one precognitive boxing genius yourself.

Solis vs. Viloria is not an upset. Viloria has always the goods to KO anybody with his power and the skillset to make any fight competitive. Solis is basically not known as a puncher. In Viloria's case, he seemed to become changed after he almost brutally killed another fighter. In a way he became gun-shy, and his offensive output drastically decreased to a point of not throwing any punches in some rounds. Many people are questioning his heart without realizing that he almost killed someone in the ring. Many fighters who had that experience never actually regained their fire to continue fighting.

And I picked Viloria to win. Solis had hard time dealing with Glen Donaire and Viloria has way more offensive and defensive talent than Glen Doanire. Solis got tagged by Donaire and I was so sure that Viloria would be able to connect as well. The difference is that Viloria has KO power in both his left and right hands.

Ramirez - Alexeev for me, but Vilora-Solis and Mosley-Margarito were both pretty big upsets.

Mosley/Margo, why, because Margaritos stock was through the roof b4 Shane lit him up.
