Am I the only one that thinks this could be an incredible match-up? To wit: - Both gave Hatton a hell of a fight in losing efforts (many had Collazo winning) - Both gave Urango a decent fight in losing efforts (many had Collazo winning) - Both will probably stay on their feet for 12 exciting rounds (or 10, whatever's scheduled); Collazo is patently the bigger and stronger man, but not a big hitter at 147; Urango has the reputation of a more fearsome punch but at a lower weight; both have very good chins. - Both are probably very hungry for a big win...or even a medium-big win at this point. - Both guys will take to give. While Luis is a slickster by trade, he's the kind with a chip on his shoulder and a need to flash his huevos. Paired up with a little chin-in-his-chest siege machine like Juan, this will make for a delicious stylistic omelet. - Both have respectable workrates (and like I said, their styles could make for a very explosive evening...FOTY candidate even). I say if Urango gets by Bailey (very likely) he should give 147 another go (unification would be a fool's errand...he doesn't match up against the A's at 140), and this is the fight he should make.
personally I think Urango is irrelevant at welterweight he should stay at 140 and fight other bangers like Maidana, and Ortiz.
I'd pick Collazo myself, but we've seen Collazo go life and death with another short pressure fighter moving up, with less strength and even stubbier arms. I don't know that it would be one sided.
Hatton is better in most ways then Urango..their fight showed that. I dont think that comparison is apt..Urango is to slow of hand and foot and to one dimensional.
I actually felt that Hatton's smothering hurt him in the Collazo fight; a more straightforward pressure style (cutting off the ring and digging body shots - something Juan specializes in) would have been more effective. IIRC, Collazo just weathered whatever storm (or light drizzle, rather) Ricky brought on the way in, then used his long arms to push him off and score himself. Urango doesn't need to grab to suck wind after every offensive maneuver...he's just a little juggernaut.
To tell you the truth..I agree with that. I think Urango would just plow forward with body shots, not overthinking things and not getting discouraged by anything Luis throws back. That could make the fight interesting. This it not a fight that excites me though...I dont really like Urango that much to tell you the truth, and dont find him that excite apart from the fact he can end matters very abruptly in a highlight reel fashion. Ill change my call to Collazo wins but not by a landslide..
Yeah, you're the only one... if Berto could box crircles around Urango then so could Collazo... terrible matchup unless you want to see a one-sided asswhopping of Urango.
You guys are forgetting that Collazo was never blazing fast, and he's certainly slowing with age. I think the Berto fight may have been his last best performance. We'll see. :think
