Hi As some of you know, I´m a trainer and I have a problem with one of my best fighters. it´s a girl and she is close of stop boxing cause of a problem we have had for a while. She is afraid of getting hit of hard punches. It has gone so far that she can´t even practice defensive exercises. Do you have any experience of this, have you had the same problem. Have any of your trainers any tips to give in this matter. Any help would be VERY appreciated. All the best The Predator
Just take it step by step. For instance, tell her you're gonna throw a jab and that she should slip to her left, so that she knows exactly what is going to happen. Do that ten or so times, until it goes fluent. Then mirror it with a right hand. If that goes well, you can mix it up. Always aim for the forehead so you do no damage in case you go through. Start really slow to adapt to her speed, then crank it up a bit as you get along. Repeat those kind of exercises (also for other punches to keep training interesting as well as making her more complete) for a few weeks until you let her spar again. The key is to build it up slowly. But has she ever sparred before or had a single particular bad experience? Some people are just not made to be in the ring.
Hi Chrispontius. That is a very good way to do it. The thing is, she have had 8 fight´s trained with the best in her division and done well, but she has always been scared of being hit. But now it getting worse, she also wont allow her self to do ANY mistakes if she does she wants to stop training. Big problem cause she´s fast as hell and very good in avoiding punches and a great talent. I have to solve this somehow. In the end I think it has to come from her self. But I will definetly try this way. Thanks! The predator
if she feels that way, then u cant change it.. either she is willing to accept, that to inflict damage, sometimes u need to accept it yourself.. all of us would like, if we could enter the ring, and hit without getting hit, but that just doestn happen.. and you eloquently said it there yourself, it has to come by herself.. with 8 fights, it seems to late to try out those exercises.. but try it, it might work..
Not to sound like a Teddy Atlas pretend-to-know-it-all, but if she's had 8 fights and been at a pretty high level before, to where she is now, then maybe the reason for her problems are outside of the ring. I guess this would be hard to find out if you only see her during training, maybe it can give you some clues. Good luck. :good
Have her wear a sturdy head gear and then throw light punches at the top of her head. That will help her get over the fear of getting hit. http://www.amazon.com/Joe-Gans-Biography-American-Champion/dp/0786439947/ref=pd_bxgy_b_img_b
