So what if Taylor was his mandatory?

He could quite easily have made the fight go to purse bids, in which case Taylor would have withdrawn (he actually said this) and Froch would fight the next challenger.

Seeing that Joe wasted a decade of his career exclusively defending his title against bums in Wales, meanwhile Froch, IN HIS VERY FIRST TITLE DEFENSE, went to the US and beat up a legit contender still in his prime years in Taylor. I respect Froch more than Calzaghe on that fact alone.

So for anyone keeping score... the number of fights that both fighters have had against legit contenders in their primes, away from the comfort and advantages of fighting at home:

    Froch - 1
    Calzaghe - 0

I respect Carl Froch much more.

    For the simple fact...

Froch choose to make his first defence of a legitimate title against a top opponent in America...that shows balls.

Calzaghe sat on his WBO belt and defended it countless times against bums and nobodies in his own backward....he didn't face a legitmate challenge until the end of his career.

The ironic fact being, Calzaghe is a far superior fighter to Froch, but with a lot less balls.

It is Froch and there should not be even discussion about it..

Froch's 1st title defence.. Froch goes to America to fight his extremely dangerous and good mandatory... It took from Joes 10 years to do same. That 10 years of title reign what joe did was basically against very limited opposition...

Damn hell, I saw topic "Us fight fans" oh hell.... Well i said what every reasonable fight fans would say IMO!

So people have more respect for a man with 1 win over an unproven superiddleweight in America as opposed to a man who dominated a divison for 10 years and then beat one of the greatest fighters in the history of boxing in America in his second weightclass?

My my, the bias shows through.

Spot on. If Froch had lost he'd have nowhere to go other than routine British/European title defences. It was a big gamble for him and it paid off.

As they say in the SAS 'Who dares wins!!'
