US fight fans...who do you respect most - froch or calzaghe

The question is not who had the greater career or who achieved more, you are deliberately attempting to make it that to promote Joe as the answer.

The question is merely about respect.

Respect is not something tangible that you can pick up after so many title defences or are after beating one specific fighter.

Respect is something gained from others for your attitude, your mentality, and your conduct.

Carl Froch risked everything to go to America and take on a proven skilled and dangerous world-class challenger in his maiden defence - before he had made money or secured his legacy.

That in itself makes him more worthy of respect than a man who lined his pockets and protected the zero at home for 9 long years.

At least, it does in my book. If you disagree, fair enough. But I do believe you are confusing, intentionally or not, respect with an evaluation of each as a boxer.

And both kessler and Hopkins will knock Froch out.
Then the comparisons can end hopefully, Jermaine Taylor is not the same fighter he was and still dominated Froch
Bernard Hopkins showed how good he is when he beat up Pavlik
And Kessler is still regared as one of the best at super middle so what was a greater achievement joe beating Bernard and kessler who are still on peple p4p lists or Froch beating taylor who in most peoples minds is finished?

We already know about your book. It's long and fairly repetitive. Though not really relevant to this topic as it was addressed specifically to US fight fans.

I hope you didn't vote, they've had enough problems over there with electoral fraud to be going on with...

This thread is not about achievement or ability though. It is about respect. And Froch's mentality and actions are far far more worthy of respect than Calzaghe's calculating career strategizing.

If you disagree, you must simply have a different idea of what a boxer should be from me. I believe in men who are warriors, who seek out the toughest challenges available to thrill the fans and gain glory and legacy.

9 years of routine cherrypicked opponents is the antithesis of that.

Long, repetitive... but full of integrity and valid argument based on sound reasoning.

I did vote. You know me. Can't resist.

I like both fighters but your comparisons are not really valid. Carl is 31. He almost 'had to' fight taylor in hes own back yard.

I don't particularly disagree with your central point. Froch's taste for adventure is somewhat newfound and prior to a few months ago he was being criticised for stay at home fights against bums.

But his attitude to the Taylor fight is absolutely to be lauded and does compare favourably to the attitude of Calzaghe through much of his career, Roy Jones and more recently the likes of Chad Dawson and Taylor himself.

There's more chance of Enzo Calzaghe winning Miss Wales 2009 than there is of that. Hopkins would embarrass Froch. I had Hopkins beating Calzaghe by 1 point, but I think he'd do to Froch what he did to Pavlik. Maybe even worse.

Slappy is a much better technical boxer than Froch. But I respect Froch more as a man.

He didn't have to at all. He could have kept packing the crowds in at Nottingham Arena and fought decent smw challengers till he was 36 and made a packet over those 5 years and kept his zero safe and sound. But he didn't. He doesn't have that mentality. Hence the respect.
