In an interview with Jim Gray, he was asked about his fighters not following the gameplan. To paraphrase:

Campbell talked about how a lot of his fighters keep in contact with their original coaches/trainers back home, and if they aren't following his instructions in the corner, then he concludes that they are following someone else's advice.

Is Campbell passing the buck, or is there truth to his statements? Thoughts?

Campbell is passing the buck. It's been well documented how little respect he's gotten in CS from the boxers.

Do you have any examples Kolya? In terms of pre-Olympic issues?

Not specific. He's just not very well respected. Partially because it got sprung on all the guys AFTER they won the Trials that they would have to live for a year in Colorado Springs; and if they didn't they were off the team. Also, he's never really trained anyone nationally or internationally; except his daughter, who won JOs when women's boxing was still kinda shallow.

He didn't give Estrada good advice thats for sure. Instead of mentioning to Estrada to use the jab he tells him to let his hands go. No ****, care to give advice a bit more tactical.

Campbell has come off as doing a horrible job to me. First, he's been working with these guys for almost a year now - he should know what motivates the different fighters. Second, he's been giving a lot of bad tactical advice. That's inexcusable. He should be summarily fired, even if Wilder and Andrade both go on to win gold.

No other way to say it, we are a joke.

The Colorado Springs approach is bull****, let them train with their own guys, let them stick with what got them there.

I agree, they are a team, but this is not a team sport. They are competing individually 1-on-1, which means it's unlike a sport like basketball, where your teammates' performance will directly affect yours, so practicing and rooming together is more necessary.

i think they went with the cuban approach. to create a complete boxing enviroment. best of the best under the same roof testing each other and progressing each other. eat sleep and drink boxing all night all day.

but that doesnt work this way they are there to represnet the us but they are there for other agenda.
why do you start boxing?...i sure as hell know it wasnt becuase your country demanded it

Wilder is raw but really big and strong. He should at least win a bronze I think.

Being that they had to stick together in Colorado Springs, how was the quality of their sparring partners leading up to the games? Did they fly guys in?

The sparring partners were the Olympic "alternates". They had several guys stay on as training partners for I think the year; with a few breaks spaced in between. I know Estrada was at least sparring with Shawn Porter; I don't know who else....I think Domonic Wade was there too. And then they would occasionally invite other people down; but they ****ed up on that too and didn't get some of the best they could. And I think they also sparred with the Olympians in the weight class near them.
