As far as one on one match-ups go, is he the greatest heavyweight of all time? I would give USA Killer, Lennox, the advantage over any 1 on 1 match up in history. :hi::deal
Lennox can travel back in a time machine and live, eat, and train as fighters from previous eras did and see if he has anywhere close to their success. Oh wait, we don't have time machines yet. In H2H fantasy matches, I view it from the era of the oldest fighter (rules, glove size, number of rounds, ref behavior, etc). I would favor or at least make the odds close to 50/50 for all of: Ali, Louis, Johnson, Foreman, Holmes, Jeffries, Tyson, Wladimir. Call me crazy for Wladimir, but if they magically fought 10 times I have a tough time believing that Lennox would win 8 or more of them; I really don't think it's decisive enough to not have the conversation. After all, people cite size as the reason for clear H2H dominance by Lennox. I simply also cite size and having had the same master educator as a reason for Lennox/Wladimir being competitive and not pre-decided.
Sorry but I have to call you out on Jack Johnson, Wladimir, Jeffries and Holmes. The first 3, in particular, have less than a 5% chance against big Lennox. Jack Johnson and Jim Jeffries wouldn't stand a chance today. You aren't going to outbox Lennox (Ali is the only legitimate chance) - the only way he gets beaten is by knockout, which is why Tyson has a punchers chance (but that's all it is). Wlad's toilet tissue chin would never stand up to Lennox's brutal power in a million years.
I always loved the North American rivalry Lewis brought, it really was great for boxing seeing the Hoosiers against the Yanks. Razor vs Lewis really was a highlight for Canadian boxing.
Bowe was an overrated bum. Look how he went life and death with the donkey Golota, who Lewis and Tyson demolished. Holyfield lost 2 clear fights against Lewis - he has no more than a 10% chance. Wlad might be the best proposition if he didn't have a glass chin, which Lewis would find at some stage over 12 rounds.
Reducing Bowe to an "overrated bum" when he is one of the best HW's of Lewis' era isn't doing Lewis any favors. Remember that Bowe beat Holyfield twice, the second by KO, a couple years before Lennox fought him and picked up what is clearly his best victory, when Evander was 36/37 years old. As for the "Golota troubled Bowe twice, Lennox destroyed him," two can play that game. How about we look at Rahman who was KO'd by Tua and Maskaev BEFORE he KO'd Lennox, or Holyfield who went 36 rounds with Ruiz in his next fights coming out even or behind, or Mercer who likely did better in his loss to Lennox than in any of his other fights he didn't come out victorious in, or how about we look at Tyson and see that Danny Williams and Kevin McBride stopped him in fewer rounds than Lennox managed to. Holyfield lost twice to Lewis, but he was not at his peak at that time. Having gone 24 rounds with Lennox past his prime, I think it's safer to say Holyfield would never get KO'd by Lennox than it is to say that Lennox would never get KO'd by Holyfield when factoring that Lennox lost once in his prime and another time toward the end of his reign by epic KO's from fighters nowhere near as complete as Holyfield. Every argument you make can be accurately reflected to discredit Lennox more than what you have said would help his argument. Wladimir is leagues and leagues ahead of guys who went 12 rounds with Lennox so the whole "glass chin" thing just needs to be rested. "Prime" Wladimir is not 2002 Wladimir. And if we're not going by "prime" here than Lennox has a whole lot more to worry about when it comes to facing the Earnie Shavers and Ron Lyles of the world, let alone the true ATG HW's.
Bowe was already badly faded and brain damaged in the golota fight. Lewis is one of the greats but people go overboard. An wlad may damn well find lewis chin at some stage over 12. "goat" of all time lol... People make so many excuses for lewis losses too. Rahman dropped his ass like a 240 lb bag of potatos an McCall pushed his **** in
lewis isnt even the best heavyweight of my era let alone of all time. holyfield is greater than lewis
Oh don't get me wrong, Bowe would be a world champion in today's era. But he was hyped up as something special in a good era, so in that sense I'm calling him a bum. Well you could play that game but it's a bit of a stupid game. If rahman had dominated Lewis over a longer fight you would have a point. Rahman was a big puncher and Lewis took him lightly. That right hand would have done for just about anyone, I reckon. Of course we all saw what Lewis did to him when he was properly focused. No version of Golota would have troubled Lewis, though. I don't think he was far off it, top be honest. 36 or 37 isn't that old for a fighter like Holyfield but if you want to play that game, Lewis probably wasn't at his prime, either. I didn't really make that many arguments, so not sure what you're on about. Lewis beat everyone he faced in a good era, overall. At the time I don;t think people realised what a good era it was but, in reflection, we have to say it's a much stronger era that we have had for the last 10-15 years. Skills-wise, yes. But Wlad's chin is not 'leagues and leagues' ahead of most who went 12 with Lewis, if anyone. That glass would stand no chance of standing up to Lennox's ferocious but often overlooked power.
The wins over Thomas, Cooper, Briggs and Seldon, who were all decent heavyweights at world level, and, of course, his victory over Holyfield in 1992. When Bowe was good he was very good and would have troubled anyone, but he had a very short prime and was mentally weak, so while I'd object to calling him a bum on the grounds that a bum, to me, means a no-hoper, a sacrfice with no chance - like the shot Dokes and career journeyman Ferguson that Bowe defended his titles against between Holyfield fights - I would agree that he shouldn't be placed on par with the top fighters of the era.
Prime Lennox would smash both Klitschkos, took a youthful Vitali on short notice and destroyed his face. The HW scene now would be a joke to Lennox.
How can he be the USA killer when he was knocked out by 2 average/mediocre American Heavyweights? :huh
