Be in awe as a not so known Deontay Wilder goes a long way.

Has he only had the one fight? Cause I saw quite a few fighters that I would pick over him at his wieght. But I think he got a favourable draw so its possible that he'll make it to the medal round. But he is very raw as a fighter so its tough to be in "awe".

Spot on, he's got a good draw and if he plays it right he could be fighting for the medals, I'm thinking he'll fall just short but still the best place in the American team.

Unfortunately, this is further proof that America is sliding in boxing...

What reasons do you give for "americas slide" in boxing terms? Money? Not enough exposure etc?

11-5 for degale. 0-0 in the first round? thie kind of judging is what makes olympic boxing a joke. Nobody made a hit in the first round and they olympic boxers? A JOKE!!!

The judges actually seemed to favour Estrada.

DeGale doesn't help himself with his style of punching though.

I disagree. Estrada landed a lot on the inside, but it wasn't counted.

Still though, Degale deserved the win. Estrada tried to counter by throwing one punch at a time and then swarming on the inside, but when it was obvious from his corner and the scoreboard that his shots weren't getting credit, he then failed to adjust. In other words, he didn't stay on the outside and throw his jab, or at least PAW out there so he could block Degale's vision to set a big right hand up.

Awful execution. Seems like the recurring theme with American boxing in Beijing.

Nah, the gulf in class was bigger than 6 points. Estrada was far too one dimensional and slow.

Olympic boxing is not even boxing anymore, its like a game of "tap". If this was the pro's theyd be calling this "one for the purists" and the "sweet science". :)

Bring back old style olympic boxing, where guys like Frazier & Ali came from.

Well he's beaten him 4 times out of 5 and I reckon he'd do it again if they were to meet. But Sutherland has to beat the World Silver medalist next in Alfonso Blanco which will be a tough test.

For all of you who hate the human fencing that is amateur boxing nowdays, try and get a look at Sutherland's fight. It was an exhibition of accurate power punching.
