Melikuziev and O'Reilly were the stand outs at middleweight

Dunaytsev was lucky to get the decision over Toledo imo also Dunaytsev wont be going to the olmypics anyway

Zhussupov? you mean the light flyweight paddy barnes battered in the wsb?

I respectfully disagree, I thought Dunaytsev beat Toledo. Even if you thought he lost, it was a close fight. Dunaytsev was too slick too Russian. His fight against Gaibnazarov should be fun. Gaibnazarov has improved in my opinion.

Maybe I'm getting his name wrong. He was a Lightweight that competed at Youth level. He won Youth Worlds and the Youth Olympics for Kazakhstan. He looked class.

Melikuziev looks special. Disappointed with Alimkhanuly.

Selimov is making a big comeback.

that Kazakh hasn't done anything at senior level

Melikuziev is unreal however his fight with o'reilly was a 50-50 fight that could have gone either way

Alimkhanuly ran into Michael O'Reilly who boxed brilliantly and had the perfect game plan

Selimov is getting a ton of lucky decisions, McComb beat him and Selimov got the decision, the Brazilian got the better of him and still lost, Alvarez will more than likely have to knock selimov out to beat him

Has he gotten his shot though? It's not Kazakhstan has any good fighters at Lightweight. They should give that kid a chance, he was good.

Are you Irish? You seem to be giving Irish fighters a lot of credit. I didn't get the chance to watch Zhanibek's fight with O'Reilly so maybe he did outbox him. I still think Quigley is better than O'Reilly. Zhanibek will make a comeback.
How did Arlen Lopez get a number 1 seed anyway? He didn't do anything. He had an easy draw to the finals. I hope Melikuziev beats him.

McComb didn't land anything clean. I don't see how he won. Selimov toyed with Conceicao in the last round. I scored it 2-1 for Selimov. I think Alvarez will be an easier fight. Alvarez has to be one of the least accurate fighters at these Worlds. He gets credit for everything. Selimov already beat him in the WSB. I'm not even a Selimov fan.

    Melikuziev and Dunaytsev the future!!

How did this become a World Championship thread? I just wanted to talk about World's with somebody didn't mean to change the topic of this thread lol.

2 years since they last fought. Ward will have definitely improved since then. He's still only 21. La Cruz is only 26, which is still pretty young given the amount of success he's had.

ya de la cruz didn't win his first world title until 22

I think ward might just try and bulldoze him, Ward doesn't usually box like this but when he does his a complete powerhouse

Kazakhstan already have a guy qualified for the Olympics at 60kg, his quite handy

yes im irish. the o'reilly alimkunaly fight was basically a stand off with little action, Alimkh****y is a counter puncher and when his opponent doesn't come forward he can look a bit clueless. The fight was 50-50 and could have gone either way tbh

i don't know if Quigley is better than o'reilly they have very different styles and o'reilly is no where near the finished article yet his only beginning and has a lot of developing to do. His not even funded to box which i think hurts his progress

Selimov beat Alvarez in the wsb in Azerbaijan if memory serves me right and im pretty sure it was a dodgy enough decision. The azeribaijanis got a lot of gifts at this tournament, there guy at 69kg got battered by the Cuban and still won

La Cruz is as slippery as an eel in an oil slick and very difficult to nail cleanly. He'll probably win again but I think it should be closer this time round. I don't really care for La Cruz's style to be honest. He's very talented but too negative for my liking.

tbh I taught in the last fight in 2013 ward won the first round, he landed 2-3 big punches while de la cruz didn't do much at all. If he won the first round de la cruz would have had to come forward and the fight would have been completely different

same here I hate his style, he legs it around the ring, hits you with the occasional jab and make it basically unwatchable

Hopefully that kid goes pro then, I would for him to waste his talent.

Azerbaijan did get a gift vs. Cuba at 69 kg. Both would have lost to my boy Yeleussinov though, so it didn't matter.
Selimov is not a bum though. Didn't he use to represent Russia? Selimov won the first two round against Alvarez and took the last three rounds "off" and was still able to neutralize Alvarez. I had that fight 3-2 for Selimov. Like I said, I'm not even a Selimov fan, but he's good at neutralizing his opponents.

I don't remember too much about it other than thinking at the time that La Cruz won pretty easily.

La Cruz has mongoose like reflexes and he can dance with the best of them. It does get boring pretty quickly watching him dance around the ring and show off his defensive prowess all the time though.

well it kind of does matter Olympic qualification and medals are on the line.

ah I cant remember fully but tbh I kind of hate Azerbaijani boxers for the amount of gifts they receive something seems very fishy. Werent the busted for offering 10 million for 2 gold medals in London 2012?

that Uzbek middleweight is maybe the most exciting amateur prospect of this decade so far imo

I forgot about Qualification, but Iglesias is better than every amateur Welterweight in the Americas. I don't think he should have a difficult time qualifying. It's unfair for the rest of the Welterweights in the Americas. Since Iglesias basically has one of the two spots in the bag.

I am not a fan of Azerbaijani boxers, but Selimov is talented that can't be denied.
I have no idea about that, so no comment.

Yeah I like him a lot. The funny thing is that he doesn't look like a boxer and his style is weird but really effective.
Uzbekistan fighters don't usually go pro, so it would suck if we never see him in the pro ranks.

There's a boxer at Junior level that is extremely talented. He's from Russia and is named Ilya Popov.
Obviously, since he is still at Junior level he has a long way to go and we don't know how he'll develop, but even at that young age he looks better than a lot of Senior/Elite level fighters.
Hopefully he develops into something nice.

Their fight is the first time I recall seeing either of them. I was impressed by both of them in that one.
