With a few prospects starting to show themselves; it seems as though good things could be on the horizon for US Heavyweight boxing. Jennings looked decent over the weekend and Wilder is making all the right noises...

I've tried to identify the top 5 in this article here:

Let me know who you guys would pick/remove! :bbb:smoke

I pretty much agree, although I think Malik Scott has been a pro too long to be considered a prospect.

I'd have the other four as 1 to 4, and Alexander Flores or Jordan Shimmell as #5 on the list.

You might be right about Scott, he's been around a hell of a long time. Amazing considering he's never really been in the limelight... I think he needs a good show against Chisora or he's done. The other guys can probably bounce back from losses at this stage (possibly not Mitchell for a second time though).

Must admit I've not seen a lot of Flores or Shimmel, will definitely check those guys out. Cheers for the feedback Freedom!

Scott is the best of them. Wilder, Mitchell and Jennings are gonna be subject to Zakman threads for the rest of their careers.#

32 is quite young for a heavyweight when you consider how old the Klits are.

I believe Scott is fighting Del Boy next :bbb

I still think Wilder's always in with a shot due to his agression - admittedly he could potentially be "hiding some glass" haha.

    1. Scott
    2. Banks
    3. Thompson
    4. Jennings
    5. Wilder
    6. Cunningham
    7/8. Mitchell/Arreola

To echo what has been said, Malik Scott is no more of a prospect than Johnathon Banks. Scott is after all over 2 years older than Banks. This is why my list is of all the American HW's, with some of them close to 35 years old and others well past that... which only further emphasizes how bad it is. I don't dare to go further on down the list. I think little of Hanks/Lawrence/etc.

I figured this was some set up for saying they were all in the NBA or NFL.

On Banks, I just don't feel he's really focused on going all the way as a boxer, and I'm not sure how much hype you can build on the guy at this stage. Scott at least hasn't lost yet and seems to lap up the idea of being a HW star. In the same way Thomson was happy to sign up to give Price his shot at redemption, Banks has seemingly accepted this role in Mitchell's career. If he beats Mitchell again, what will he do?

The best American heavyweights in my opinion.
    1. Tony Thompson. The tiger might be the third best heavyweight in the world. I wouldn't call him a prospect. It's eather Thompison or Kubrat Pulev who's the 3rd best heavyweight in the world.
    2. Bryant Jennings. Looks like a guy with more than 17 pro fights, and only 17 amature fights.
    3. Deontay Wilder. He's being brought up slowly, Very strong even though he's a beanpole. Showed very good ring IQ against Harrison. Unless he has a weak chin. There's no stopping him.
    4. Jonathan Banks: Great boxing IQ, savvy vetrean.
    5. Seth Mitchel: Ran into Banks the last time out. Their rematch will tell us a lot about Mitchel
6.Malik Scott. Being brought up slower than Wilder

The list Kinda says it all.

Wilder. Meh, really needs to step up to be taken seriously. I know that 100% KOs worth $s but he needs to go in against live opposition - maybe the mystery Russian will tell us more. I don't really rate him, but I think he's young enough to put some skill on top of that athleticism which could give him a shot. Hint of glass tho., and he needs to get some live rounds in.

Jennings - Fedosov let us know that Jennings is decent, but was really hoping for a more decisive display. The fight was looking 50/50 before the stoppage. I think he might need to give up the day job if he's hoping to progress much further.

Malik Scott's some skill and speed, but I think just doesn't have the power for real HW success and is already getting on in age.

Tiger Tony is probably the best there at the moment, but is already past prime, so not really a prospect.

What the hell happened to the US heavy scene? Until 10-15 years ago the US Heavies were all most of the world knew about boxing. US HW was boxing (forgive me, Lennox). And now?

Maybe when the Ks retire HW will start to generate more interest in the US again, and attract more new blood, but for now things ain't looking great.

Not a bad list really....although.....I would take Hanks off and insert Ruiz in his place since Ruiz is going to dominate him.

Also.......since you let Scott, 32, creep into your list, you may as well have had Rodriguez in there too. He's 35 yo, but is 36-0 34KOs and has been trying to get a big fight since 08.:think

Funny how Scott went from 'he's terrible, he's garbage, he's never fought anyone and never will' to 'he's awesome, he's the best American heavy, etc.' off one draw.

    lulzy.

And I thought the Soviet list of undefeated HW's was embarrassing. For the sake of national pride, America should just disband the NBA for a couple of years.

Half of those guys aren't really prospects anymore. I'd consider Jennings and Scott respectable defenses, so I'd classify them as contenders.

I'd replace them with Ruiz and Shimmell

It was more of a 9-3 8-4 type dominant performance that was stolen from him and only called a draw in the interest of saving face for Shelly Finkel.

Scott was not NBCs pick to headline their show, it was Glaskov coming off the impressive win over Hamer who NBC chose to build up as Adamek looks at the horizon of his career.

In fact, it seems NBC wants one American and one Euro HW to be their poster boys for their HW shows.

Seems like they got Glaskov, Adamek, Chambers, Jennings, and Liakovich on speed dial.:think
