Used to to go jogging around the park in steel-capped construction boots, definiteley improved my stamina but my feet were blistered to ****, didn't want to end up with fallen arches so I just use proper running shoes with ankle weights now.

I hear ankle weights are even worse.

Thats one good way to ****up your feet.
Eventually you may develope chronic problems that may never go away.
Use the best runnung shoe you can get.

Agreed! I can only see boots causing problems i cant see enough benifits to justify wearing them. You could increase leg strength ect in other ways

They put unnecessary strain on your joints.

If you want to gain muscle in your legs, then do squats in the gym.

  7. I used to run home from work every day in properly fitted construction boots. If it's good enough for ALI and defense force personnel then it was good enough for me.

IN saying that, the stress it adds on your knees and small muscles/tendons mid sole did seem unnecesary so I would not recommend it to people on a regular basis.

It isn't a bad thing to do occasionally if you're up for something differant and a challange.

I think the US army would look a little silly legging it around afghanistan in nike air max.

If running isn't taxing enough you could just run faster.

I imagine these people that run in boots arnt running very quickly. Wonder if there all doing the old rocky shuffle feet jog???? Probably why they have no joint issues.

If your gunna run then get some decent trainers and run, if you want to "strengthen" your legs do some squats or something.

Personally I'd rather run barefooted, the only problem is that I don't live near a beach. I hate shoes with a passion, they **** up biomechanics by shutting out the toes and mid foot muscles. The less shoe, the better.

I ran on a beach for a week last year, barefoot. The first days my big toe hurt, and I had cramps in my foot, but that got better after a few days. Very enjoyable.

Yeh there was a thing on the news actually about it last night and i bloody missed it but it was saying how new research is saying running barefoot is better than having any running shoe, i imagine they dont mean on concrete lol.

I couple of years ago i was in australia for 4 months and ran on the beach there, it was loads better only thing was i ended up with a few blisters from the sand. Finding running a real problem at the moment but when im healed up i might try it on the treadmill.
