Gassiev Vs. Dorticos was boycotted by USTV, a really good fight, and now, Usyk Vs. Gassiev will be boycotted! This is an important fight! Never underestimate USTV's extreme hate for Eastern European fighters...............we will miss such a good fight...............only in America................Why do you think they are boycotting the good fights?
American TV and American Boxing promoters do not have any respect for the American public and are more than happy to rip them off if they want to watch their fights and are more than happy to deny them great fights if it does not improve their own agenda in any way.
I'm sure it isn't a boycott as such. Trouble is, no one knows who these guys are, neither are American, and not even a Mexican or Brit involved. A Russian versus a Ukrainian... that's a really hard sell to the American public, I would imagine. Especially in a division that isn't traditionally very popular... If you sell the rights at a reasonable price taking these factors into consideration a TV company will take a punt on it. If you ask for silly money no one is gonna screen it because no one wants to watch it.
Remind me again when US TV ever cared about the Euro centric Cruiserweight division, you're being a wee bit of a drama queen here Farmy, calm down. There's no such thing as Russian collusion, that was all unmitigated Trumped up BS, and there's no conspiracy to keep Usyk or Gassiev off US TV.
Surprised at least ESPN didn't pick it up, though rumors say WBSS priced itself out. But can't honestly expect US TV to pile up several millions for mostly unknown names with language barriers, plus they like to come up with their own ideas instead of buying others'. If WBSS went to Showtime on day one to co-produce, things might've been different, and I'm sure Dorticos-Gassiev (both living in the US) could've ended up in the US, the final possibly too. On the other hand, WBSS fighters are handsomely compensated for their efforts, so it's no biggie. US TV can go to hell as far as they are concerned, even if it's short sighted given the winner will have a VERY strong argument to challenge whoever comes out of the Wilder-Ortiz-Joshua-Parker foursome. It is what it is, though I put a helluva lot more blame on fat fk Dan Rafael & co. for not traveling and doing prime time, headline stuff which on the single most impressive boxing tournament of the past few decades, which is why they are hired. US TVs are excused, international writers not making maximum effort are not.
The reasons American tv has passed on this tournament are two-fold. One, there's not a viable American participant in it. Two, Snoozerweight is boxing's second division & it doesn't matter if it gets unified or not.
It's funny that other nations clearly work in such a way that would allow foreigners to believe some nonsense like this is even possible in America. I pity the fool.
It's definitely collusion, or maybe an obstruction. Either one, really. Maybe because last night's fights were being held the night before the Super Bowl? Maybe the Russians had tried to adversely effect the US viewing audience AWAY from an American sporting event, but the FBI thwarted their efforts with a late night warrant? Maybe because the combatants have two many consonants in their names? I mean seriously, does Usyk sound American? Unlike good, red blooded American names like Mayweather, Wilder and Nichols? And why are you, Mr Farmboxer, so interested in promoting two men from the former Soviet Union? Have you ever met with any Russian lawyers? Sad.
Cruiserweight isn't taken seriously despite there being talent because everyone knows cruiserweight is just a stepping stone to heavyweight. Cruiserweight wasn't even a well covered division back when Holyfield was champion. It's not until fighters like Holyfield, Haye, etc. step into heavyweight that media interest picks up.
Who cares. Sauerland are teaching the US/CAN Promoters how it's done. Excellent HD 100%free and legal streams.
This. Also, it's a cruiserweight fight, which hurts it even more, since very few Americans care about that division. The only reason I even watch the top cruiserweights fight is they may eventually transition into top heavyweights.
Same reason why Americans ignored the super middleweight division for so many years, unless they have a fighter in the mix they don't really care. While other nations will happily watch quality fights with no home grown fighter involved the US culture doesn't seem to really care unless a foreign fighter builds a name for themselves beating US or Mexican fighters on US soil.
