    According to a Ukrainian website Usyk refused to hold his open workout and said:

    'I would like to thank everyone for the hospitality, for the way you met and greeted me. Everything's fine. I have prepared well for the fight, and if it takes place, I'll show everything I'm capable of. I also respect my opponent; such fights are a true decoration of the sport. I don't know if the fight takes place. I haven't moved any further lately, so we made a decision to say goodbye to Vatamanyuk). As for my injury - I recovered, and it's OK'

    What's the deal here, why is this fight in danger of not happening?

    There were information that there is a possibility the fight will happen, but not as a part of WBSS. That almost automatically means there are problems with the prize money... :dunno

    I thought everything financial had been settled long ago. Or did everything change when the venue did? Wasnt this supposed to be happening in the middle east or something at the start?

    I reckon Sauerland is having issues tbh.

    The guy wants to be a big game hunter....but he's little more than a fisherman.

    Sauerland is a bum. First he tried to take the fight to Germany but didn't find enough sponsors and lacked money too, then he looked for a country to host it and Russia wanted it badly and now there are still some issues to fix? WTF? Sauerland call it a career and close the doors, you piece of stingy ****.

    There have been certain statements from the Ukrainian's management team that Usyk may not fight in Russia on Saturday?

    Those rumours are complete and utter rubbish and there are absolutely no issues whatsoever. In fact, Usyk has expressed personally to me an extreme desire to win the first-ever Ali Trophy. He told me months ago that he didn't care where the final would be and he is not only in Moscow, he is very, very confident that he will be raising the trophy on Saturday.

    For fans, sure, but not necessarily for boxers.

    Financially, they'd be rewarded better forging their own paths.



    I don't know why one of the lesser Boxing organisations doesn't try and establish tournaments for their belts.

    Fans, boxers, promoters interests sometimes intersect but they're often in conflict. It makes the business of making the fights so interesting to me. Each one is an exercise in balancing risk and reward.
