"I saw him spar Wladimir Klitschko when he was training for the Tyson Fury fight. He battered Wladimir in sparring and they kicked him out of the ring after two rounds. "All the press were there and the sparring partners had to stay there, on the far side of the ring but they didn't even let Usyk stay in case we spoke to him. Usyk is an "unbelievable specimen", says Johnny Nelson "They ushered him out of the gym because he kind of mugged Wladimir off. "He's a southpaw, has very good movement and is very cocksure of himself. He is very confident and I can only hope he has underestimated Tony Bellew." https://www.skysports.com/boxing/ne...ksandr-usyk-says-johnny-nelson?basketId=12936 Nelson also previously claimed Wlad KOed Wilder in sparring.
I believe it. Just about a month or so ago the two sparred again and here’s what Wladimir said... This content is protected Keep in mind Wladimir, even today at his age, could beat any heavyweight out there on a good night and still has TOP NOTCH skills.
This is the same johnny nelson who claimed a few weeks ago on sky sports that bellew can outbox uysk ( even after seeing this and bellew saying himself he cant outbox uysk) I think johnny nelson is a great guy but he talks out both sides of his mouth to stay on the sky payroll , as a result i dont trust anything he says. I do think this is true though i remember watching some wlad training video where they would show everyone sparring wlad but when it came to uysk they went into some back room ring behind closed doors no cameras allowed. Production crew basically admitted that it was because this may be a lot more competitive and tough than what they had previoisly seen eg wlad was probably getting his ass kicked
Easy to believe. At this point in his career Klitschko was having a lot of trouble with any kind of movement. If Jennings was making it hard for Wlad to be effective then Usyk would easily do the same. Klitschko camp shouldn't have kicked Usyk out as that's the exact kind of training he needed to beat Fury.
Usyk has that half crazed look, like he will gladly take to give. But can they take what he does give?
Power might not get better over time but there is no doubt that that boxing skill overall has improved over time. I'm not saying historical fighters were bad or inferior, but the depth of skilled fighters has increased definitely. Wlad was the one of the skilled fighters of his generation, but Usyk is in a different one. He is part of a new breed, so it doesn't surprise me that Johnny Nelson makes these claims. And I mean, if you're spending most of your time training with Loma, who wouldn't be skilled after those sessions? But then again, he could just be hyping it up so Bellew gets credit like 'the best cruiserweight of all time' and nonsense like that from sky pundits if he wins. Probably a bit of both to be honest. Still, I think Usyk could be the man to beat AJ. Maybe it doesn't come from Fury or Wilder, maybe it will come from somewhere we don't expect.
Honestly I don't buy half the stories Nelson is bringing up from sparring. He lost me when he kept saying that Klitschko strategically invites young up'n coming talents to his camps to spar them and "mentally destroy" them so that's why Klitschko in his prime had no credible opponents left -- he all drove them out of boxing during sparring. That was such a deluded theory I can't take anything that guy says without a grain of salt.
