Dubois celebrating the last frame of that punch does nothing but honour Usyks word - it was low.

How’s the fury household this morning, @GotchaHat ?

Gloved punches from 200+ behemoths have a prettty sizeable area of impact.

We all know that wasn’t a shot to the balls and took all the air out of Usyk but do you regard it as legal.

i don't know where to find the official rules from the sanctioning bodies. i'm going by observation and what was said in the post fight interview.

the punch was below the navel. the navel, not the belt line is what is considered low or not low. from what i understand, a shot to the bladder or the testicles is considered illegal. the punch was well south of the navel. so usyk was in his right to take the time to recover. good call by the referee.

Dubois threw a number of low blows during the bout. It was part of the strategy, and probably was increased as a strategy as the fight wore on and DD was having little success.

The ref warned Dubois on low blows in the following rounds:

    2
    5 (twice)
    6
    9

Dubois threw at least two low blows in the 9th round, before the end of the bout.

The bottom line was that Dubois couldn't do anything against Usyk, and so he had to try to go for the low blows. One of them worked, although Usyk survived it.

He did. I just made a thread on it.

It was part of his strategy.

If you literally shell you ribs and solar plexus with you elbows, and the punch still lands below them.. yeah, that's a blantant low blow. No crossed guard or shoulder roll is protecting you against that.

Hrgovic, Anderson in his fight with Rudenko (let alone legacy body punches like Foreman) all found a way around the elbows, or bring the guard up. Going below the tucked elbow is pretty much an admission of inability to penetrate the defence fairly withing the rules of Queensberry boxing.

Yeah. That photo is proof Dubois was trying to go low.

In some ways, I don't blame him. He couldn't get anything going, so why not give it a shot?

Usyk got pissed with Dubois' tactics in Round 7, shortly after Dubois tried to shove him backwards. Then Usyk really turned it on for the rest of the fight.

 And the fact he clearly did so a whole bunch of times during the fight, with extremely powerful shots I might add, only makes it more amusing

Yes, the problem is those dug in to the “low blow” narrative only focus on the view that “looks like” it’s low while ignoring the view that demonstrates clearly it wasn’t. That being said, I’m fine with Usyk catching a break, he’s the better fighter, and clearly deserved to win, but that shot wasn’t low if you look at the appropriate angle.
