You mean purses? Yeah, I think natural large HW lads are more suitable to be prizefighters. Public loves to see large boxers, if it isn't HW, they are considered not enough large etc. Better had been if CW lads had trimmed down to LHW if it is possible for said boxer or had picked another way to earn for a living. Of course very weak division for sure. Then why " puny cruiserweight " looked better vs Chisora than natural HW Parker? HW division for sure now is ethalon how best boxers should look in the ring: Ruiz didn't had finished 40 y.o Arreola, Whyte get sparked by 40 years 11 months old small HW in old Povetkin, A.J get finished by the same Ruiz who was not able to KO 40 y.o Arreola. Ofc HW division is the best with the best boxers in the world. Pulev vs A.J fight was next proof how high is quality in HW division. No doubts.
Heavyweight is a historically strong division. Cruiserweight is a historically weak division. The two best cruiserweights in recent years have moved up to heavyweight, spent two years fighting unranked boxers, and haven't impressed. The best champions in lighter, stronger divisions don't tend to spend years fighting unranked boxers in the heavier divisions when they step up to another weight class. When they do, it's because they aren't as good as the top guys in the bigger divisions. And they know it. Both Usyk and Gassiev fought at heavyweight previously, and both moved down to cruiserweight because it was easier there. It is what it is. If Joshua is a great heavyweight, a middle-aged, often injured former cruiserweight champion shouldn't be a problem.
Usyk stamina is crazy and Joshua's is the opposite. If joshua doesn't stop usyk early ,then usyk will stop an exhausted joshua late. Joshua will miss aot and get often countered and this will be his downfall
If you mean Gassiev, he was inactive enough long to be not ranked even by boxrec. This mean when he fought this Seferi, he ( Gassiev ) was not ranked even by boxrec, just marked as inactive. Even today he isn't ranked in top by any boxing org in top 15. He needs to climb in rankings to be interesting opponent for top ranked boxers. Usyk had been ranked highly at CW and never had been marked as inactive. This means that his situation was different. At least he get these Witherspoon and Chisora fights. Do you think HW boxers are rushing to fight with him? Okey, he maybe is bad or like this, still even A.J will fight vs him only cos Usyk is his mandatory. HW division is stagnant, they even looks that didn't had med Hunter vs Hrgovic fight. Of course all HW boxers are better than CW boxers, historically for sure. No expectations, it isn't puny Cruiserweight, I agree, only HW boxers are good. Stuff that boxer competes in lowest weight class where he is capable to weight in is common in all divisions. I of course do know that Okolie is better boxer than Canelo, there are no doubts. Okolie is larger and will beat Canelo if they will fight. If you think that Pulev in today's shape might beat puny CW in Okolie or Dorticos, then OK. It's heavyweight boxer, he should beat out crap from any CW boxer. Larger = better boxer. Always. If you mean only like about h2h, then yeah, Okolie is better than any LHW or SMW, MW boxer and will beat all these. Because he is larger than these.
I have no idea what you are trying to say. You seem to keep trying to start an argument with me about something I didn't say. I said heavyweight is a historically strong division. It is I said cruiserweight is a historically weak division. It is. I said Joshua is in his prime and Usyk is not. Which is true. I said if Joshua is a great heavyweight he shouldn't have a problem with an older, often injured former cruiserweight, which Usyk is. You tried to insult me by calling me a casual. You keep bringing up Pulev and Okolie for some reason and fighters' nationalities. I thought I was very clear. If Joshua is a great heavyweight, he should have no problem with this version of Usyk. And I stated why. That's all.
Historic trends do not change the recent past. In the last 6 years or so CW division was stronger than HW division.
Not counting the World Series of Boxing bouts - which was a paid professional league where boxers could still maintain Olympic status and where Usyk faced Junior Fa, Joe Joyce, Mihai Nistor and other big heavyweights - out of Usyk's 18 pro fights, FIVE of those 18 bouts (nearly a one-third of his pro fights) came against heavyweights (Mendoza, Crenz, Rodriguez, Witherspoon, Chisora). If you include his six World Series of Boxing fights (which were paid pro fights) ... along with his 18 "pro" fights ... 11 of his 24 paid pro fights (nearly half) came against heavyweights. Usyk spent 2013, 2014 and 2015 fighting both heavyweights and cruisers before he decided to go for the cruiserweight belts. Because the prospect of fighting Glowacki for a belt in 2015 was seen as a helluva lot easier than fighting Wlad Klitschko for the title.
There is ZERO proof of that. The top two cruiserweights over the past six years haven't made a dent at heavyweight. A lot of people on this board kept insisting the cruiserweights were better. But, so far, the top two cruiserweights over the past six years haven't done squat at heavyweight.
@Dubblechin Usyk won his gold at amateur heavyweight, not super-heavyweight. Cruiserweight is his natural weightclass. Cruiserweights don't have to make a dent at HW for the CW divison to be more competitive than HW division.
I know what division he won the Olympic medal in. Again, I CLEARLY stated that he fought big heavyweights in the World Series of Boxing league in 2013 and he fought cruisers and heavyweights in 2013, 2014 and 2015. Check his record. He did. Usyk fought 15 times from 2013 to 2015, and NINE of those 15 PAID bouts - against Fa, Brechlin, Joyce, Majidov, Modugno, Nistor, Mendoza, Crenz and Rodriguez - were at heavyweight. None of those were cruiserweight fights. Hell, Joyce hasn't weighed below 200 pounds since he was 10 (LOL). Cruiserweight was an easier division to win a belt in. He could still make the weight. Glowacki was a champ in one division, Wlad was a champ in another. So he went for a belt at cruiser. It was easier.
Look at this. You have no intent even to understand what I had posted. I had explained that Gassiev after inactivity period was UNRANKED by himself. You think he was ranked somewhere before his comeback fight vs this Seferi? For sure and if you wish to insist, yeah Usyk for sure had been KOed if he fought vs Wlad or Vitali for a title, no doubts. He had sparred with both of them and he does knows this. It is no shame to get sense of reality. Boxing is sport not proof of dumb masculinity where some delusional guy should prove that he is able to beat anyone in the world. LOL. Other thing, despite you will do all the best to deny this reality: at HW he most likely didn't had get title fight even after 5 or 6 years in pro ranks. HW division is stagnant, look how long row with nobodies even Wilder should had beat until he get a title shot? You might not understand what I'm posting because you do not have any intent to understand. You have your opinion and you will not change this. It is fine and normal. I don't dream that you will think about reality. If for you good boxers are only HW, it is your right to think like so. Canelo sucks cos he isn't HW boxer?
