Usyk's actions in the 80s and 90s would have been condemned by boxing fans as escapism, not the mindless praise they receive today. The fact is, as a champion, he didn't defend his title. Did Usyk's few heavyweight title defenses truly clean up the heavyweight division? Ultimately, the heavyweight division has long since declined. The Usyk-Fury fight only happened because Turki funded it; otherwise, it wouldn't have been possible. Need we even discuss the current level of the heavyweight division? How long has it been declining? HBO has been out of the boxing market for years. Does the US heavyweight division have any decent talent? Richard Torrez jr is the number one ranked heavyweight boxer in the US. It's laughable that now they're defending Usyk and saying how long it would take to organize the fight.
