I agree without a doubt Usyk is the best Cruiser and Heavyweight of his era but there is a lack of depth to his resume up at Heavyweight I’m sure most would agree and beating both Joshua and Fury does not make you an ATG. I think most will agree that this is also a pretty poor era at Heavyweight but tbf Usyks wins at Cruiser are as good as in any era.
Usyk has also beaten Dubois, and it was twice Usyk beat both Fury and AJ who were the best of this division. Who does Usyk have to beat to prove to you he is an ATG?
Usyk certainly needs to beat more than the three fighters mentioned to be considered as an Heavyweight ATG ! So your happy to label a fighter who has had only 7 Heavyweight fights against 5 different opponents a legit ATG ? There is no doubting he is the best of this era but Usyk has never been as active as he could have been (not always his fault) and this era is also a poor era compared to many eras of the past . There is not one recognised ATG Heavyweight who only fought once a year, just look at some of the careers these ATG fighters had compared to Usyk’s.Usyk fought twice in 2024 the most he has ever done .
He fought guys on their own terms. I don't rate Joshua and dubois that high, but I do rate Fury and to remain unbeaten in 2 divisions, especially the heavier divisions is a great accomplishment I do agree with some of your post, but for me he has proved an ATG
Not sure even he is the best Cruiserweight ever because the Real Deal Evander Holyfield has a genuine claim to this as well.
As expected and deservedly so. Well done Champ! Any other fights he does moving forward is just icing on the cake to his ATG status. He has nothing else left to prove but will continue to enjoy watching him fight however much longer he has left.
Usyk is definitely most deserving this year for unifying the heavyweight titles against Fury and winning the rematch, too. If all the belts weren't on the line, however, I'd have gone with Dubois. His demolitions of Hrgovic and Joshua were violent, clinical and decisive fights. The Usyk-Fury fights, in comparison, aren't matches I'm going to go back and watch over and over again for years ... or fights you'd show to people to try to win them over as new fans. But the Dubois wins are those types of fights. Unifying all the belts was historic, though. So you'll get no argument from me. Here's hoping both remain active and continue to generate headlines in 2025.
The only issue I have with Uysk is that he hasn't given any elite fighter an ass whooping, beat down or total schooling. I don't throw around the term "ATG" with ease coz I know there were some monsters bk in the day. His 4 fighters with AJ and Fury were very competitive. Many refs would have saw no problem with the DD low blow. Against Bellew he was behind on points when he stopped him. Even at Cruiser he went life and death with Bredis. Usyk has not separated himself as considerably better than other elite fighters. He's never done to an elite fighter what, say, Crawford done to Spence. I do think to be an ATG (in any sport) you have to have a few scary performances against other elites of your sport. Like Usain Bolt in the Olympic 100m final in 2008, shutting down after 70m, celebrating and breaking the world record This content is protected SCARY
