Some interesting points, I give Fury a pretty decent chance in the rematch. The big question is whether he has the discipline and still has the physical ability to get back into top shape for the rematch.
I’m not saying it will work, I hope it doesn’t I can’t stand drug cheats like fury but I found it noticeable that he was reluctant to clinch, I think it was down to the fact that cut was still pretty freshly healed, fury is dirty and sly and he uses his roughhousing as part of his arsenal, but this time he didn’t.
I don't remember it as being dull. There was little in the way of drama or high spots but it was fought at a good pace.
I thought it had elements of Ali-Foreman. Usyk let Fury punch himself out for 6 rounds and went for the KO once Fury gassed. Also think the biggest adjustment Usyk made was trading on the inside after Fury threw his offense.
There's a key difference.......................the better boxer puncher with more speed was the smaller guy. Also, Usyk/Fury wasn't close at all. It was competitive but Usyk was the one banking round after round after round.
Yes, totally agree and there are many more differences between the two fights that should go without saying - a number of differences that well exceed the number of any similarities one might perceive. But really, the primary intention of this thread is to set up the Ali-Frazier rematch as somehow being sequentially analogous also, inexplicably framing its outcome as some sort of predictive pointer for the Usyk-Fury rematch. Never mind the amount of water that flowed under the bridge, during the near 3 year period between the FOTC and Super Fight II - not least Frazier being hammered into submission by Foreman in < 2 rounds. For Frazier, the Ali rematch was only Joe’s 5th fight since the FOTC. On the other hand, Ali had racked up 13 fights between the FOTC and the rematch, the rematch being Ali’s 14th fight since the FOTC. Atop that, Ali’s express and maintained clinching strategy throughout the rematch was also flagrantly illegal - without any intervention or due points deductions ordered by the referee. But again, the difference there is that Usyk has already proven that he is empowered against same and knows how to combat any efforts to stifle/clinch. Olek certainly isn’t any where near as vulnerable as Frazier was to such tactics.
Bull**** a young Ali against Cleveland Williams displayed tremendous body shots. You lying Fury is a **** boxer compared to Ali footwork, jab, stamina, IQ and skill wise you smoking crack if you think Fury better show me any Fury performance better than the Cleveland fight and Liston fight.
Isn’t Bundini somewhat responsible for Ali’s public image though? Ali’s public image was his impersonation of Georgeous George, fueled by rhymes and nicknames Bundini helped come up with.
Fury would light cleveland and Liston up just like Ali but I'm not going to argue the beauty of the boxing in them fights from Ali. Well ahead of his peers with his movement.
Who has Fury fought with complex footwork his whole career he fought bums and awful boxers Liston would destroy most of those guys yes Liston would kill Chisora, Whyte, Wilder etc these guys are shite. Fury is the same boxer who punches himself in the face and display awful techniques in multiple fights. The one time he fought a world class fighter he got his ass handed to him. Fury is overrated only significant victory is against Klitchko who was way past it.
