Usyk has already won the Performance of the Year

I wasn't shocked that he won, but I was shocked at how good his performance was. I thought Gassiev would win. Boy I didn't see that coming

 

Not sure how this makes any sense. GGG is a boxing master and is very experienced while Gassiev has a very limited skillset and needs a lot of work if he wants to become an elite fighter. Gassiev like Kovalev is useless once he's taken out of his comfort zone. GGG on the other hand has several dimensions to his skill set. Canelo came into the GGG fight with a great game plan. He went straight to GGG's body and rocked him, but GGG quickly adapted and picked up the pace and had Canelo retreating the rest of the fight.

 

GGG can box but there’s a reason we’ve never seen him in there with a Ward/Mayweather level boxer. It’s well know his brother was the better “boxer” of the two

 

I don't remember there being a Ward/Mayweather level boxer at 160 during GGG's run at middleweight. I would've loved to see him fight Pirog, but his injury prevented that from happening. Also, it isn't like Ward/Mayweather level boxers grow on trees.

 

GGGs run at middleweight isn’t over and there are elite level boxers abeit not on par with Mayweather/Ward but Andrade is a fight he could have taken over Vanes and BJS depending on which version shows up. Also I think he should have fought Jacobs again to clear up the controversy. Great fighters usually run it back when there’s controversy on a win.

 

Ward wanted to fight him though.

 

220 lbs throwing 80 punches a round and moving; stamina is probably Usyk's greatest strength.

 

I agree that the Vanes fight was a very bad look for GGG and I was highly critical of that fight. Hopefully after the Canelo fight he can either unify with BJS or defend his belt against Jermall, since I think they'd both be tough fights for GGG, but I think he can still beat both.

Andrade is a very talented fighter, but his inactivity has had a negative impact on his skills. Hopefully he doesn't end up wasting his prime like Haye did.

GGG beat Jacobs by a 3 to 4 point margin.. Overplayed that Jacobs performance. It wasn't controversial in the slightest for me.

 

I think Gassiev was absolutely shocked at Usyk's skill that he completely shut down. in the mid rounds, you can hear Gassiev say in Russian "I can't fu*cking adjust to his style, I've tried everything!!" Just shows how crazy good Usyk is.... And Abel Sanchez was no help either SMH... "U want me to stop the fight??" SMH how is that supposed to motivate u??? He should have been giving him advice like Papa Lomachenko was to Usyk.. "Move to the left, 2 jabs, move away etc...

 

I'm in Japan right now so I haven't had a chance to see the fight but I have to say I definitely thought Gassiev would win this fight by KO. I underestimated the gold medalist and perhaps overestimated Gassiev given his impressive win in the lead up to this fight.

 

Good shoutouts. The CEJ beating was very satisfying and a lot of fun to watch

I felt so bad for Gassiev, Usyk is just too Ukrainian.
