Wilder was seen as a consensus top 3 off statistics but many boxing fans have disagreed with this narrative, suggesting Wilder had terrible skills and never beat any prime contenders, cherrypicking fringe contenders and bums outside the top 10 before finally stepping up and getting destroyed by Parker and Zhang. But at the end of the day, history is written by the victors

Wilder was a 5 year reigning champion with 10 title defenses, it doesn't matter much who he fought, these are his stats. Wilder will always be remembered as a world class fighter now that Usyk sees him as a valuable asset to his resume. Wilder drew with the great Tyson Fury and that's more than enough to confirm his elite level on boxrec. Wilder will be a great win on Usyks resume and he'll retire undefeated having beaten every top dog in this era.

    Ahahahahhahahahahahhahaha.

Oh wait, you're serious. Let me laugh even harder.

    AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA.

In all seriousness Deontay Wilder was grown in a lab to make boxing pundits look stupid. He’s a min-maxed Fight Night Champion character who spent his experience points exclusively on “Right Straight.” The man’s style is drowning in red flags and yet he just hit so goddamn hard that it didn’t even matter.

    Until it did.

Until he faced actual top level boxers, at which point he revealed himself to be hot liquid garbage. He will be remembered as such by anyone who isn't a casual.

I could laugh even harder, I reckon...

Wilder was a myth - a marketing creation dreamt up to try and get US casuals interested in the money division of boxing again... Fed lower level fighters with massive limitations hyped up as reasonable opponents for a champion when next to none actually were.

Wilder himself was realistically only a fringe contender with a punchers chance, nearly lost to a massively overhyped ancient Cuban without a decent win in several years (and even then, his best win wasn't all that) and generally held a belt hostage fighting journeymen and the occasional gatekeeper... Wilder never beat a single contender - which should be shocking for a champion, especially when more than one was begging him to find his balls and fight.

Usyk fighting Wilder doesn't legitimise him in any sense - it's a waste of a fight, and Usyk will be judged negatively if he takes it (rightly so) but it will do zero to make Wilder look like anything other than the fraud he truly is... And thankfully more and more fans of the sport are waking up and seeing it.

Wilder was a killer at one point. A danger to anyone even Usyk. 2018 Wilder would have had his face boxed off by Usyk...but if he could land that right hand it would have been night night...but he doesn't possess that anymore, long gone. Wilder's current best right hand bounces off Usyk.

While its a waste of a fight, wilder is the one long reigning champ or the era usyk hasn't fought

The trouble there is that Parker was also a champion and actually amassed better career wins than Wilder. Yet Usyk didn't to want to fight the guy.

Parker has Ruiz, Chisora, Wilder, Zhang, Bakole

Wilder has Stiverne, Areola, Ortiz, Breazeale, Helenius

At one point in time, boxing fans used to consider Parker, Joshua, and Wilder as a serious question of who would be at the top of the division. Parker tried to find out. Wilder avoided the question. And now he is washed up

Wilder cherry-picked Fury after he had ballooned up to 28 stone, took 3 years out of the sport, had turned into a chronic alcoholic, and looked flat in 2 warm-ups against C-grade opposition. Even then, Fury was robbed on the cards. Not to mention that highly questionable draw is probably the standout on his entire resume aside from potentially a 73-year-old Luis Ortiz, who still nearly stopped him.

Wilder can't fight on the back foot, has no jab, head movement, and has been beaten pretty comprehensively by B-grade opposition who actually have a gameplan, and don't walk chin-first into his monstrous right hand. Let's not forget he was absolutely destroyed by Fury in their 2nd fight, a very limited fighter with a minimal legacy, Usyk actually depreciates the quality of his HW resume by fighting such a shot and decrepit version of an already limited fighter.

Why Usyk wants to fight Wilder :

"Wilder has been at the top for the last 10 years. This is about sporting interest. In the “big three,” there were Joshua, Fury, and Wilder. I beat Joshua twice, I beat Fury twice, and one unbeaten one remains, Wilder” - Usyk

I'm pretty sure Joshua tried to find out too but discovered he couldn't get past Andy Ruiz with a winning record or his soul. He tried to find out again, and got blown out and completely ruined by Dubois.

Wilder chose to fight Tyson Fury who was seen as the best at the time of the third fight.

Lol I guess that is one way to look at it.

First, I'm not sure what the relevance Joshua is to the discussion

Second, Wilder didn't really have a choice over fighting Fury a third time. He had just lost his golden ticket to undisputed. He either rolls the dice one last time against Fury or his team wave good bye to many years or careful building and positioning.

You may recall but that third fight blocked undisputed.
A bit of a pattern for team wilder. First they blocked Stiverne v Klitschko through the WBC. And as we know they never unified though opportunities were there (Klitschko, Martin, Parker, Joshua). And then they blocked undisputed again when Fury and Joshua were signed up to fight. - we don't even need to discuss Joshua to see team Wilder were a consistent problem.

Not sure what credit you want Wilder to take there
