There simply can be no debate. Usyk's resume at heavyweight is magnitudes better. And he passed Charles, too. And frankly, he probably has passed Marciano, all factored in.

    I'm glad you all agree.

Perhaps but I personally don’t rank currently active athletes in any sport, whether it’s boxing or lacrosse, on ATG lists. I believe it’s unfair because all their hay isn’t in the barn.

He's joined the pantheon. His exact legacy is going to be weird because a lot of it is at cruiser, but his "cruiser" division, with the 200 pound limit and rehydration, was filled with massive specimens by yesterday's heavyweight standards, and he beat two the best super-heavies ever in three fights.

His exact legacy will always be subject to debate. I am perfectly happy to say that he is there with Ali, Louis, Robinson, Armstrong, Duran, Leonard, Greb, Langford...that crew. Nor do I care who disagrees. His achievement...undefeated, undisputed, first and only heavyweight champ of the 4-belt era after being the first 4-belt champ of the cruiserweight era, going to everyone else's backyard to do it, and never even being off his feet, is totally unique in the annals of the sport.

Don't tell me he didn't have the fights--he didn't need them! Don't tell me he never beat anyone great--he never let anyone be great!

    Legend.

No. He has not. Tunneys did way more at HW and in his 2nd weight class. His career was over twice as long.

Who exactly did he beat at HW? I make fun of Fury for being inactive and distracted by life's pleasantries. Dempsey laps him in those regards.

I'll go one further. I not only rank Usyk above Tunney (and far, far above Tunney). I rank him above Dempsey, too.

Beat better, more virile, threatening heavyweights.

Tunneys above Dempsey so in my book so I think you went a step backwards.

Tommy Gibbons, Johnny Risko, Charlie Weinart and so forth. Think one of the Greb wins was at HW. Tunney was fighting in 2 weight classes most of his career. He wasn't a LHW who moved to HW. He was double dipping then went to HW full time.

Wait, did you just list Johnny Risko like it's a plus? He was a 190 pound dude who was 19-7, would score 21 KOs in his 120 fight career, and at the time he faced Tunney had lost 3 of his last 6. Yeah, that's better than beating AJ twice.

Weinart was a 184 pounds and had won only 3 of his previous 7.

    Cool story, brah.

I greatly admire Usyk but he has only had 22 total pro bouts and his career has yet to be fully written. Experience dictates patience.

He also beat Heeney and the Euro champ Spalla. Bartley Madden, Jeff Smith, Jim Delaney and Burke are all other good HW wins. He beat Loughran, Carpentier and Battling Levinsky at LHW.

Usyk has fought less than 200 rounds in his career and is 6-0 at HW with 2 split decisions. Tunneys HW resume is better than Usyks and Tunneys LHW resume is better than Usyks CW resume. Usyks the king of this generation at HW/CW but its hard to give him any ATG praise beyond that. Usyk just doesn't have the resume.

Some rubbish, here. Tunney never fought a black fighter. It is not as flagrant a thing as with Dempsey, as Wills was not at his best in when Tunney was at heavy, but he certainly didn't fight everyone there was to fight the same way as Usyk.
