All you can do is fight and try to beat the best of your era. Usyk has done that at cruiserweight and now defeated the two best guys at heavy. His Heavyweight resume is far to limited for me to place him over well established heavyweight greats. H2H is another story that’s about styles, he is the undefeated p4p best boxer on planet right now and a southpaw, he fares better H2h than historical ranking.
Tunney has a similar career in the heavyweight division and a lot more volume to rest of his career. People that saw Tunney fight swore by him as the real deal. But I can see why people would pick Usyk at 6’3 225 lefty that just beat Fury siding with him both H2H and now historically at heavy.
    It’s a good debate topic

If he had three more wins over 'names,' he could be there.

Wins over any three of Wilder, Zhang, Hrgovic, Parker, Anderson, Kabayel, would IMO, put him over Rocky.

It would all add up in my opinion.

But he never fought anyone with whom he was Fury-ous. See what I did there?

I didn't think about Kabayel. That would be a dangerous fight. Agit has the best body attack in the division.

    Tunney, not rated,
    never champ in light-heavy,
    Usyk stands alone.

People treat Tunneys resume as much shorter than it is and his SOS as much worse than it is. By todays standards Tunney might as well have fought forever. Usyks total career is well under half of Tunneys. People hold Tunney not sticking around to fight Schmeling and Sharkey against him when the truth is he had no way of knowing people on the internet in 100 years would view those wins more highly than Tom Heeney or any of his prior opponents.

Usyk has 6 fights at HW against 5 opponents 2 of which are split decisions the other with the controversial foul. In his 4 title fights he 4-0 against possibly the 3 best HWs of his era(I'm being very generous to Dubois) but theres nothing else there. Usyk gets to be considered the king of this era and join the undefeated HW champ club but his resume in no way compares to any post HW great from the past century except Michael Spinks who was in a very similar situation. Usyks HW resume is flat out THE shortest of any other champ.

Speaking of Michael Spinks if Spinks had beaten Tyson and retires undefeated how would he be viewed as an ATG HW with just 5 HW fights? Thats really what we're looking at here. I said before this fight if Usyk wins he'll have the most polarizing HW resume ever. And he does.

In any case I wasn't around for any of the big HW title fights in history. Perhaps people overreacting in the heat of the moment is normal and as time passes things will cool down. But his resume shortcomings are as obvious they come.
