Usyk has stated in an interview that he intends to go toe to toe with AJ, is this a good idea? Counterpunch Boxing News This content is protected
Wtf do you think he did last time when he whooped his ass? Since when was Usyk a runner/hugger and girly man like Rigo, Lara and Mayweather?
Lara out-boxed Canelo but yes the other two were runner/huggers and Usyk is better on the front, however there were times when he looked uncomfortable being pushed back, this time I don`t think he`ll take a step backwards.
Let us see what happens on the night, Usyk will do whatever is best to deal with the version of AJ in front of him on the night. Usyk like any boxer knows you do not tell your opponent how you are going to approach the fight, i'm sure Mr Usyk would not give misinformation...would he? Usyk selling the fight like a champion.
Makes sense to try and put some hurt on AJ early. Just to put that sense of hesitancy in AJ. Make AJ remember that everything he tries, Usyk has an answer for. Start up right from round 12 of the first fight.
Probably not a good idea. Why allow the fight to become a slugfest where AJs only advantage; (aside from height and reach) power, will be more of a factor? You want nullify your opponents strengths, not magnify them. Smells like mind games to me.
Being a better boxer any type of fight favors him. He can outbox fAkeJay and KO him. The bodybuilder fought timidly last time and still was rocked and almost stopped. What if he gets hit with punches he does not see? In the Chisora, Briedis fight Usyk showed his inner dog. Weasel Eddie better be ready with that towel.
He can go to war and still move. Movement is a big part of his game, giving AJ angles and making him move his feet. I don’t see Usyk standing flat footed in the middle of the ring against anyone. He’s too smart. When AJ is tired and starts to gas, I expect Usyk to try to take him out and not be as cautious as the first fight. Boxers say a lot of **** before fights but they rarely reveal their exact fight plan. Don’t be surprised if Usyk does the opposite of what he says. He didn’t run the first fight, he was within range but always moving. I can’t see him abandoning that style this time. It worked well.
