Some tough cruisers / cruisers who went up to HW there!! I'd give him a decent chance against all of them personally. Chambers especially, this Saturday I think we are going to see that Usyk is a level above Mchunu who beat Chambers. Admittedly that's based entirely on eye test and amateur fights (he's obviously achieved very little compared to some of those yet), so I could be very wrong!
I don't disagree with you, AJ needs to prove he's the man at HW by beating everyone else, and if Usyk can keep making CW comfortably he should try to unify the division. But someday Usyk vs AJ could be a great show, don't you think? All I was saying is that if Usyk decides to move up he deserves a shot at a title relatively quickly.
This conversation is ridiculously premature. Usyk looks a great CW but we have no idea how he matches up against the Parkers, Whytes and Chisoras of this world let alone guys like Joshua. Just wishful thinking on the part of a certain group of posters.
Well at the rate he's going of course he deserves a shot at the title. I did mention a fight between AJ and Usy would be entertaining. Maybe they will meet though I doubt either one has this fight anywhere near their radar right now. I also think a fight with Parker would be a good one for the fans....
If people are wondering why Usyk is being compared to heavies, I suggest you study his amateur record more coherently. He beat some of the best of the super-heavyweight division. Guys like Medzhidov who are the epitome of size and power. He beat Nistor who had Joshua doing the chicken dance. Usyk is a very, very good fighter and at 6'3'' really not that "small" as people are making him out to be.
Agreed on both counts. I support Parker against anyone, but I'd be very surprised if Usyk didn't win a clear UD against him. The skill difference is too big imo.
Anyone saying AJ would KO Usyk with ease is making stuff up with no appreciation of Usyk's defensive skills. Holyfield with everything he had still was overwhelmed by Lewis and had a tough time with Bowe, so no doubt Usyk would be up against it in any fight against a big HW of that kind of caliber. AJ has a lot to do to prove he's anywhere near Lewis's class tho. This will be an interesting discussion in 2 years time if both keep winning.
If Usyk was 6'6 I could see it. He doesn't have the size in my opinion, to pull it off though. Joshua is not a flat footed scrub. Wladimir fought guys who were considered good boxers for heavyweight. Povetkin, Byrd, Chambers, Chagaev, Ibragimov etc., and the size difference was always too much to over come against the bigger Klitscho. It would be akin to Lomachenko trying to beat Spence.
